TLDR : Answer Summary
The need for a return flight to Thailand depends on airline policies and individual circumstances. Generally, passengers are required to show proof of 'onward travel' out of Thailand, which can be a ticket to a neighboring country like Laos. While it’s not mandatory to have a return ticket, it's advisable to have some documentation ready for immigration checks. Many travelers suggest using services that allow you to reserve a flight for a couple of days without full payment, but always check the specific requirements of your airline.

Book a flight that you can cancel at no charge after you arrive.

. How so? If you cancel at no charge??

To be sure not to get into trouble, I would have bought a return ticket. Real ticket, not onward tickets.

I did not have a return flight. Had no problem. Thailand elite visa.

Your English is pretty good compared to some others. If it's your first time to Thailand you'll likely not be asked for a ongoing ticket but if you know you will be leaving at a certain time, be good to get it before you face immigration
Bart **************
Flight to Laos is fine.
Lew ***********
Use onwardticket . Com

You can reserve a ticket for a couple of days and it shows that you have the ticket
TcDj *******
If they ask for an E-ticket, then he will have problems. Onward tickets don't operate with E-tickets. Only tickets from email with booking number. Some airlines company's can ask for an E-ticket.

You're never required to have a return ticket. The only thing you'll ever be required to show is "onward travel" which is a ticket out of Thailand to anywhere else. If you're required to have this depends on what passport you have, what visa you have, and what airline you're flying.

I'm Going with Qatar Airways, Visa Tourism 60 Days

Then you would need to check with Qatar airways. When they give you an answer, make sure you keep it in your email so you can show the check-in staff if there is any dispute.

Just ask them if you are required to show proof of onward travel to checkin for your flight to Thailand with a tourist visa.

You need a flight booked out of Thailand to anywhere within the number of days that you get stamped in for as that is what your airline might require
Mike *****
Abdalah Errjaibi One last thing. Best to choose an outbound flight at least 31 days to be safe. To show you need 60 day visa *and not a 30 day visa.

Yes. For visa, they want to know flight info for flight out of Thailand.

IF you do exit Thailand (*you don't have to use that flight) make sure your visa will still be valid when you return.

FYI - real (one way) tickets from BKK to DaNang are as cheap as $43(USD) or as cheap as $54(USD) to Saigon (Ho Chi Min City).

So I don't have to book a flight return only a flight outside thailand can be sufficient

For exemple going to Laos? I have Visa 60 days do i can book my flight in 30 days
Mike *****
@Abdalah *********
Any flight out of Thailand before your visa expires. With 60 day visa, the flight out can be on Day 30 (or Day 15 or Day 59,etc..). *Make sure you don't lose the rest of your 60 day visa.

On The documents I sent to get my visa i find " Air ticket reservation with details (entry and exit ticket from Thai territory in a period of less than 90 days) " This means Any flight Tickets Just go outside Thailand 🇹🇭

All depends on your specific airline and the check in person on duty.
Bart **************
@Dan *******
no it doesn't. A flight to Laos is accepted.
Dan ********
@Bart *************
rules are made to be broken 😂
Bart **************
@Dan *******
up to you if you want to break them. Making up new rules as you suggest is not possible.
Dan ********
@Bart *************
no what doesn’t?
Bart **************
@Dan *******
nothing depends on the person checking you in. There are rules defined and those are sometimes enforced (and sometimes not in which case you may come out lucky). A flight to Laos within the required time qualifies the holder for entry to Thailand, and so nobody can just based on their opinion refuse boarding. I find this a very weird suggestion.
Dan ********
@Bart *************
stood at Sydney airport and denied boarding to my flight until I came back to check in with an onward flight. Booked one through onward flight.com then I was checked in. 100 percent depends on how lazy the check in desk is at the time you arrive.
Bart **************
@Dan *******
Your case only shows that there are objectively defined rules that you need to comply with. Which is exactly my point.

Your point that something depends on the check-in crew is right to the point that they could decide not to check your entry eligibility. That still happens often. But if they do, they can't make up these rules by themselves at the spot. Come on.
Dan ********
@Bart *************
no they don’t make up the rules. It’s at their own discretion.
Bart **************
@Dan *******
you're stubborn.

Again, that's not the case. Nothing is at the airline's discretion. You pay for a service so they cannot just refuse you based on someone's discretion. The rules are defined and clear.
Andrew *******
@Dan *******
true ...some airlines ask others don't ...even with Same airline it can be random ....very annoying when it's so arbitrary ...seems an unnecessary stipulation as many are now buying fake tickets which they never use anyway .
Dan ********
@Andrew ******
my mate got asked, I made sure I went to another counter and I didn’t get asked. Same flight 😝
Abdalah **********

@Dan *******
Get asked for a return flight ? or only an outbound flight
Dan ********
@Abdalah *********
never a return, just an onward flight from the country you are going to. It’s the airlines responsibility.

@Dan *******
for exemple i can simply buy a flight ticket to malaysia
Dan ********
@Abdalah *********
I did a border bounce to Malaysia last weekend. Weekend there and back into Thailand.
Dan ********
@Abdalah *********
you can do that. So long as you are exiting the country.
Dan ********
Andrew *******
@Dan *******
yes depends on the airline ...some don't require proof of onward flights . Can be annoying when you get to check in and they ask for proof tho .
Bart **************
@Andrew ******
indeed if they require proof of onward flight or not depends on the crew (not the airline itself - every airline is supposed to check entry eligibility, it's just not always adhered to).

But the question is here whether a flight to Laos is accepted. That's not dependent on anyone; it's acceptable for entry.

If they Ask me for a ticket to go outside the country is ok ( Cheap ) i just don't want to buy return ticket

Because I'm planning to go to laos not go back home
Dan ********
@Abdalah *********
depends on the check in person on the day. There is no way of telling.
Bart **************
@Dan *******
dude what do you think, that companies can get away sending customers who paid for a service back home based on someone's subjective opinion? That's not how it works. Would be very easy then to make money.

A flight ticket to Laos is acceptable for Thai immigrations, and hence also for the check-in crew.
