Should I book a round trip flight for 6 weeks or a one-way with an extension plan for my trip to Thailand?

Have a question I hope you all can help me with. Am planning a trip to Thailand and want to stay for 6 weeks. Want to go under visa exempt and extend for an extra month when available. When I book my flight should I do the round trip with 6 weeks in mind or book for 4 weeks and change to 6 weeks after immigration approves the extension?

I remember hearing something, somewhere that the later is the way to go but I do not remember the details. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This question discusses the best approach for booking a flight to Thailand when planning to stay for 6 weeks using a visa exempt entry. The main points include whether to book a round trip ticket considering visa regulations or a one-way ticket and try for an extension after arrival. Key insights suggest that airlines require proof of onward travel within 30 days, which impacts the choice of flight booking. Additionally, obtaining a tourist visa in advance may avoid immigration hassles altogether.

If you know you're coming for that long just apply for a tourist visa beforehand. It costs the same as getting the exstension and you don't have to spend a day at immigration. It's all e-visa now so you dont even need to send your passport away

Depends what country you live in. No e-visa for Australia.

Immigration probably won't care but your airline won't let you board a flight to Thailand if you can't show onward travel within 30 days of arriving since that's the rule.

I bought a $30 ticket to Cambodia and threw it away
