The discussion revolves around whether to travel to Thailand on January 27th given concerns about a potential lockdown. Opinions vary, with some commenters suggesting that a lockdown is unlikely but could occur if hospitals become overwhelmed due to COVID-19 variants. Most current activities seem unaffected, although predictions about increased cases post-New Year may influence future restrictions. Ultimately, the decision to travel hinges on personal readiness for changing circumstances.
Lockdown is the last thing they would want to do. But I believe they would do it if hospitals get overwhelmed by Omicron. (Which at the moment does not seem to be happening at all). The future is not predictable though...so only come if you are able to roll with the punches. Be ready for anything.
The only major thing that's changed is the suspension of test and go, and to a lesser degree the dodgy "sandbox" areas outside of Phuket (which were always a bit dicey anyway). Everything else is virtually the same. A paranoid acquaintance of mine went out yesterday and bought a month's supply of beer because he'd "heard" that there was an alcohol ban from midnight (perhaps the rumour was put by the local liquor store who wanted a quick pre-Christmas profit!).
Lol, personally I don't see anymore lockdowns happening. Good percentage of the country is vaccinated and covid numbers are relatively low. Only thing that might come back would be an alcohol ban..
