Hi All, so I have been back from my first Thailand now two weeks and already booked to go again in July two weeks ago. Next year I am wanting to go for 60 days and apply for the 60 day tourist visa. Is the best way to do this online? If so, when should I apply for it in time? For example, let's say I am aiming to go January 10th next year how long before this should I apply? Thank you for your help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The best way to apply for a 60-day tourist visa for Thailand depends on your home country, as many have adopted online eVisa systems. It's advisable to apply 1-2 months before your intended travel date, ensuring your application falls within the 89 to 15 days before entry window. If you're not comfortable with online applications, you can enter Thailand using a visa exemption for 30 days and extend it for another 30 days at immigration. Additionally, users raised questions about using a flight reservation for a multi-entry visa and required flight proofs, indicating there's some ambiguity on these requirements.

Hi I would also like to no , is it possible to use the onward travel website and just reserve a flight and use that for proof when applying for a multi entry tourist visa.

Also can I just provide my flight into Thailand and out of Thailand before the 6 months

Or do I need to provide all return flights

I will be taking on the multi visa

If you are worried about online visa just book everything and come, you automatically get 30 days, then apply at immigration for a extra 30 days, job done 60 days

hi mate , where in Pattaya can I apply for extra 30 days? Also what documents will I need when applying as I’ll have to get them printed here. It’s not that I’m worried it’s just first time doing it and want to get it right and understand it better

don’t go down the extension in Thailand route - waste a day of your trip and it’s a hassle. From uk getting the 60 day visa online is relatively simple (as long as you have proof of accommodation) and is actually cheaper.

hi mate yeah I’ll do that but it’s backwards in that you have to book flights and accommodation first

you must register when you arrive go to Jomptien immigration they will then give you the paperwork for extension , there are more people on this group more qualified than me to give you more information, last time I came I did not register, so went to immigration to extend,asked in the first office on the left for info they said they would do it for 4000 baht, having seen the que I paid it, if you can do it online do it

no only Joptien 20 baht on Baht bus

The best way is the one that applies to the country you apply from. In many western countries, this is now online. But not everywhere.

also once approved what do I need to show at immigration at the airport?
Bart **************
@Lee ********
only the visa. With that, proof of onward travel is not required for entry.

ah great so i could even book my return flight once I’m there then in Thailand?

yes Uk is eligible it was more wheh to apply, can I use onward travel to give me the ‘flights’ and use them? I’d feel more comfortable booking my actual flights once approved

@Lee ********
yeah the onward flight requirement is a nasty one. Very illogical to require visa applicants to first book flights and then decide after whether or not you are even welcome in Thailand. These should be in the opposite order. Various countries that do a better job at this, e.g. Myanmar requires proof of onward travel also if you have a visa, but not at the visa application stage (like in Thailand), but upon entry.

I fully agree to book onward travel tickets at first and then book the real flight later on once you're approved. Although what
@Brandon ***********
says is also true; there isn't really a risk of refusal like there is with visas for European countries, if you just submit all the required docs.

that’s very helpful so onward travel is fine to do. How would you deal with the accommodation? Maybe just book a cheap thing as ‘filler’ until approval?
Bart **************
@Lee ********
for accommodation it is a lot easier to find refundable deals. Booking and Agoda are full of those.

But for flights you could also do that. Premium airlines usually sell refundable deals for totally unrealistic rates, but if you're certain you will cancel, you could just do that.

I was only gonna cancel if the clock starts from date of approval but i understand the 60 day clock actually starts from the time of the stamp at the airport

if you have no reason to be denied then you won't be. Unless you're a convicted felon or have a warrant you should be fine

no I don’t have any reason I’m just trying to think of every eventuality, my thoughts are just timing it, if I book my flights and hotel for say 60 days and my visa comes 5 days before I travel then I would only be able to stay 55 days if it starts on day of issue ?
Brandon ************
If the thai embassy in your country has adopted evisa then applying online is your only option.

A tourist visa is valid to be used to enter Thailand for 90 days from the day it's issued. So you can apply anywhere from 89 days before your trip until 15 days before your trip. 1-2 months before is a safe time to apply.

i thought it was 60 days then you can get an extension of 30 days once there? From the day it’s issued is worrying because I don’t want to leave it too close to my travel date, would you book flights and accommodation after issued? I ask because it’ll be a nightmare booking stuff first then not knowing when it’ll be approved. Once approved what do I need to show at immigration?
Jon *****
@Lee ********
Correct but 90 days is the validity of the visa
Lee *********

@Jon ****
how would you plan this with hotels and flights? Obviously ideally I’d need the visa first ideally so I know the exact start and end time then I can book everything
Brandon ************
@Lee ********
you are the one who decides the exact start date and end date. The visa validity has nothing to do with that. You have 90 days to enter Thailand. The day you enter you get a 60 day stamp.

@Brandon ***********
oh I see, was told it started once approved, so it actually starts then once stamped in Bangkok? That makes planning a lot easier. What do i need to bring to immigration at the airport just the approval emails or something else?
Brandon ************
@Lee ********
there's 2 separate things. There's visa validity, this starts the day the visa is issued and is valid for 90 days.

That is not related to your permission to stay in Thailand. That's 60 days and starts when you enter Thailand. You visa is used by then and the dates on the visa mean nothing once you've entered Thailand. Only the date on the stamp in your passport matters at that point.
