When applying for a NON O visa would Annual travel insurance be acceptable.
Answer summary
When applying for a NON-O visa in Thailand, annual travel insurance is not required. Most comments indicate that while health insurance is not a necessity for the NON-O visa, some individuals recommend obtaining travel insurance for personal reasons. Insurance is more critical for other visa types, such as the OA and OX visas. Many respondents noted that travel insurance typically covers trips of shorter durations.

The Non-OA is a poor choice of visa in my opinion.

Not only do you need a doctor exam and criminal records check, but next year you can only renew your mandatory health insurance with one of 14-16 approved Thai health insurance companies.

Unlike America, the insurance companies don’t have to accept you. Any major preexisting health condition, or simply being overweight can result in a denial of coverage and loss of visa.

With a Non-O visa, you can secure health insurance from any health company, anywhere in the world… or choose to self ensure, or no insurance at all.

The problem is, I heard an agent was saying you need to do an OA visa in the States first to come to Thailand

it’s not a problem at all.

Arrive on a 90 day Non-O visa from your local Thai embassy.

Make sure to purchase a multiple reentry stamp to preserve your visa status.

Open a bank account when you arrive in Thailand and deposit the required funds.

Exit an reenter Thailand as often as you desire.

With at least 45 days remaining on your visa (differs by province) apply for your annual visa extension.

You can even continue to travel.

the problem is opening a bank account. You need to get the 800,000 baht in bank and then you need to wait 2 months. A person may need to leave Thailand for a month and return. Hopefully you can find a agent to open an account

bullish!t.

Americans can enter Thailand without any visa for 60+30 days.

A 90 day Non-O online Thai visa is a good choice if you plan to stay. You can renew it one year at a time.

Travel insurance won’t be accepted a year or two later when you start applying for 1 year extensions. I had an OA for 6 years. I would recommend getting an O visa that does not require insurance

The Non-O visa (which in my opinion is preferable for most, if not everyone) does not require health insurance.

However, most would recommend you purchase travel insurance, which is inexpensive and available for up to a one year term, from major companies such as WorldNomads or Allianz.

Not needed. Annual travel insurance I believe is only good for 60 or 90 day stints at a time.

If you have a Flex Plus account with Nationwide there is a premium you pay for extending the length of the trip and age, but my wife and I have used it for many years for 6 month length trips abroad, its the only way at our age we can do it, and it ends up not that expensive even when you add onto the cost of having flex plus, which costs £13 per month, there are other advantages of having this account as well, such as breakdown cover for the UK and Europe .

I have the same and paid a premium of 400 on top for a longer stay BUT the longest they offered was 120 days. When did you last get a 6 month extension?

you can use an international foreign health insurance for the first two years out of the Non-O/A Visa. A Thai tgia-listed insurance will only become mandatory when you apply for the 1-year extension

Insurance is not required for a non-O visa. But if you want to have insurance for yourself, then it's fine.
