TLDR : Answer Summary
Children of Thai parents generally hold Thai nationality and therefore do not require a visa or visa exemption. If the child is a foreign passport holder without a Thai ID but has proof of relationship (like a birth certificate), they may be eligible for a one-year extension under specific circumstances.

Thanks for the info everyone!

Children of Thai parents have Thai nationality and hence don't need a visa or an exemption of it. That's also the case in Vietnam by the way.

For vietnam since i dont have a Vietnamese passport they offer a 6 month visa exemption booklet instead. (same as those who marry a Vietnamese national)

, that true for dual-citizenship, and that foreigner has to have Thai national ID if I understand right.

a passport I'd say, but yeah you need proof that you own the citizenship of course.

even if you have a thai i/d card if you don't have a thai passport you're getting into the country on the foreign passport as someone from that country

Do you mean foreign passport holders who have a Thai parent(s), but no Thai ID?

If that is the case,

If you have proof of relationship with a Thai parent(s) like a birth certificate, you might be able to apply for 1-year extension based on "In the case of a person whose father or mother is or was of Thai nationality, returning to his/her original homeland".

My fault, I realized it could be pretty ambiguous since I didn't mention born overseas.

If your parents are thai does that not mean you are also?

a lot of Thai people who were born overseas never get their Thai citizenship in order. I understand it's fairly straight forward to get but you need to have both parents in the country, there may be an obligation to enter for national service etc.

Yes, appreciate only one parent needs to be Thai but from memory friends who applied for Thai citizenship as an adult had to have both parents physically in the country as part of their application process, even if one was not Thai.

only one parent has to be a thai and the child is thai too, BUT as ellie said IF they have a thai parent even if they're here on another countries passport they can get a year extension at the immigration office very easily
