Do my children need to apply for a tourist visa to Thailand if we plan to stay for 33 days?

Hi all. I have a question about tourist visa. We are from Sweden with a family of 5. Children aged 9,11,13 do they need to apply as well? Our stay in Thailand will be 33 days. I read somewhere that they will not have any reprucusions if dont have it? Checked for applying online at thaievisa.co.th, but those applications seems targeted for adults only as they require, papers of income, etc. Which of course they dont. Any help is appreciated

TLDR : Answer Summary
The family from Sweden can enter Thailand under the visa exemption rule, allowing for a 30-day stay. For the children aged 9, 11, and 13, no separate visa is required, and they can also enter without a visa stamp. After entering, the family can apply for a 30-day extension at the immigration office, ensuring their stay covers the total of 33 days. It is noted that children under 14 typically have no penalties for overstays, but it's advisable to avoid any overstay to prevent future visa issues.

You don’t need to get a visa. Just get the visa exempt stamp at the airport immigration upon entry. It’s 30 days, so you’ll need to extend this at the nearest immigration office before the 30 days are over.

All of you simply enter Thailand on a 30 day visa exempt entry, then as soon as it is convenient go to immigration and get the 30 day extension. This covers you for your whole vacation, and is much easier in the long run, and you can apply for the extension anytime in the Bangkok office. Even though it is very unlikely, in the future if any of your kids decide they want to get an Elite visa later on in life, they will be refused if there were any overstays in their history in Thailand. This is an extremely rare situation, but you never know what your kids will do after they leave home. I will speculate that at least one visits again when they're grown.

immigration does not expect you to forget. Lots of people, especially students, mark the dates on their calendar. You are also staying in Thailand until a fixed date, and that should be ingrained in your thinking, as it is the most important thing about staying in Thailand legally. Immigration does not accept any excuses, especially "I forgot".

any overstay situation, even one day, can result in a rejected Elite visa application. You always have an expire date on your entry stamp in your passport, no matter what visa, or visa extension you have, so it wasn't the school's fault you didn't remind them in time. That is how immigration looks at it.

have even 2 days overstay with ED visa(school forgt my visa expiry )possible to reject ELITE VISA just for this?

You are from the EU so you should be able to apply online for a 60 days before you come here. If not you can extend when you are here and spend a lot of time filling the paperwork in or get an agent which is expensive for three days.

if you contact the Royal Thai Embassy directly email at the bottom and explain to them your personal situation they will help up. I did this myself in 2020 in the height of the Wuhan. The Consular were so helpful and got us out of Europe. I cannot speak highly enough of the people in the Royal Thai Embassy.

If you come here on the 30 day I can see you losing 3 days of your holiday at Immigration unless you employ an agent.

Here's the email:

for me and wife i see as easy, the evisa application. But for the kids not so much, as all papers needs to be supplied i.e income papers, verification of residency etc. As many answers this can be done on site, but would rather have it done. Nearest embassy here in Sweden is 600km.

Brandon Thurkettle you miss my point. They are from the EU so they can apply online for a visa before they travel. The online portal is so easy. Unlike spending a day at Immigration. Plus filling forms in and getting paperwork. Total nightmare. Not all countries can use the online application portal.

being from the EU means nothing. The EU is not a country. It depends on the passport country. There are countries in the EU that cannot enter without a visa.

You will need to purchase a 30 day extension for ฿1,900 at your local immigration office or be prepared to pay ฿500 per day of overstay…don’t get arrested, the minors Uber 18 will have no repercussions given to them

Since you're from Sweden you can enter Thailand visa exempt (meaning no visa) and be stamped in for 30 days. You can then get a 30 day tourist extension from an immigration office once you're in Thailand.

OR you can apply for a 60 day tourist visa before you come to Thailand and you won't have to worry about going to immigration once you're here.

Either way for the kids you can let them enter visa exempt and just go on overstay as there's no fine under 14 I believe and they can't be banned for overstay either.

the stamp is in Thai, so other countries won't mind it either 👌

not an issue for Thailand certainly but could be for elsewhere

never had any reports of that being an issue. Even Tod Daniels normally recommends it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

although they will get an overstay stamp in their passport. Best to either get the visa or the extension for them

I agree Visas for the adults and Visa Exempt for the kids, less money and less fuss
