Does my 11-month-old need a tourist visa in Thailand, or can I avoid overstaying fines?

Question for parents! I have an 11 month old who has had 2 tourist visas. I'm on a volunteer visa and so is my partner (baby's dad). Some people say my baby doesn't need a 2 month tourist visa and that it's ok to overstay for a baby. Anyone know?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Parents often wonder about the visa requirements for their young children in Thailand. Children under 15 years old are not fined for overstay, though they receive a stamp in their passports. For parents on a volunteer visa, it's suggested to consider applying for a Non-O visa for the child, as it could provide a yearly extension and avoid complications associated with overstaying a tourist visa.

Is it a possibility for you to just apply for a non-O visa for your baby instead of a tourist visa? My husband is on a non-O volunteer visa and so I and our 6-month old have non-O visas as his dependents. It costs the same as a TR visa but you have the possibility for a yearly extension. Then no need to even mess with the "your baby has overstayed" routine.

they certainly could apply for a non-o visa based on the child having parents who are on long term extensions here (y)

However most immigration offices would tell you right to your face to just let the child overstay. In fact in Bangkok people were denied extensions and just told to let the children overstay instead

Getting a Non-O for the child could work though, thanx for the suggestion

Not a parent, but children till the age of 15 years are not fined for overstay, they get the stamp in their passport but no fines. Till 18 years f age they get fined but not black listed.
