Should I transfer $3,000 to Thailand now with the exchange rate at 35.48 or wait for a better rate?

US to Thailand wise transfer. They're offering an exchange rate of 35.48.

I was going to transfer $3,000. I'm in no rush So I was wondering if I should wait for a better rate or should I just pull the trigger before it goes lower? Speculations and opinions appreciated!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether to transfer $3,000 to Thailand at the current exchange rate of 35.48 THB per USD. Several commenters share their insights, stating that trying to predict currency fluctuations is often futile. Some suggest that the THB could strengthen in the upcoming months due to high tourist season and other economic factors, while others advise that historically, rates above 35 are considered good. Many agree that for smaller sums like $3,000, the difference in exchange rate isn’t significant enough to warrant stress over timing.

Looks like it might go back up to over 36…. You can just google the exchange rate and you will get a chart that you can look at different time frames. The monthly chart will be the best indication of true direction. Then compare the rate to your transfer agent. Wise is probably the best rate.

It was 37 less than a month ago. Really depends on many factors, especially what the US fed is doing to deal with inflation and interest rates. This is not financial advice. We’re at a level of support (June 22,
*******
, 2009, 2006) at 35.4 where we’ll likely either see a bounce back to 36 or a drop to 34.9 then 34. If you look at these levels in the past, if it breaks here, not looking good. Honestly I wouldn’t get my hopes up for anything past 36 in the next few weeks. This is just technical analysis with simple ranges and trend lines and only a tool, but using these levels and $3000, not sure the difference is going to matter that much. However, there is significant downside if this level fails.

Usually the exchange rate goes up in the low seasons then goes down in the high season so it reached a peak of 37.xx this year now its going down while the high season is approaching with a lot of $$ coming to the country so i wouldnt expect much of a dump in the currency price to dollar in the next few months .. its ur choice though

Analysts I listen to think the DXY may have peaked, at least in the near term. Speaking of Baht specifically, I tend to agree with the person who said it tends to appreciate towards high season, but that’s just anecdotal, and just based on my experience over the past couple of years.

Unless you need the baht immediately, I’m a fan of DCA’ing. Wise doesn’t have very high fixed fees, so there’s little advantage to do it in bulk.

Come on be real. On 3k a variation to say 36 (less than 1% Forex variation) only means an extra 1200 then, and you take the risk THB strengthens. If you that worried send 1550 now and 1500 later

A bit of a conundrum really.. since the fiat dollar is the currency of the NwO.. and it is their demise that kills the fiat.. the new rainbow dollar will be a strong currency though.. but you won't be able to spend your fiat once the transition is completed.. you'll only be able to exchange it in a U.S. bank.. and if you have tons stashed under the mattress you're gonna need to certify it's providence before they'll accept it.. in other words prove where it came from or risk losing it!
Paul *******
Historically the baht strengthens the more we get into high season. I’ve been buying recently ready for next month. Does seem a bit weaker but history says it will strengthen 10% by mid Jan. I’m hoping not and still holding off with some of my pot.

Unless I'm moving a relatively big sum.. then a few bips on the fx (in either direction) isn't really going to change my life.. and the exchange rate my Uk bank gives me is also a lot closer to the commercial rate than most.. so i simply transfer funds as and when needed.. if you were buying property and moving a significant sum then that's a different ball game of course.. but anyone who doesnt understand the fiat dollar is indeed dead will soon be in for a nasty shock.. I'd be moving my cash into (physical) gold and silver until the storm passes.. i believe they are both undervalued at present and expect them to rise significantly.. the fiat dollar is no longer the world's reserve currency and will not recover until it is replaced by the USN.. not too long to wait by all accounts!
Todd *********

Wally ************
Let’s say a +/- move of 3%.

$3000 * .03 = $90

Is $90 really necessary to think about?

Just transfer it and stop worrying if you can time the market.
George *************
@Wally ***********
Best answer I've seen to this question. It's always important to understand what difference it makes to the bottom line. Often, for relatively small amounts (e.g., $3,000), it's not worth fretting over the type of slight move one is likely to see week to week. No one knows whether it's going up or down. Historically, in recent times 35.48 is a good rate.
Todd *********
@Wally ***********
that’s not unfair. Although short term fluctuations can help or hurt… it’s the long trend that matters

I believe Sarin gas which is a nerve gas that was used on the Kurt's could be considered a weapon of mass destruction depending on how it is used. cause you're giving the US way too much credit for things that would most likely have happened on their own. Also. The dollar is losing strength due to oil being traded in other currencies again for the first time in decades.

long term, it is a major risk. However, the current volume of trade in other currencies is so small that barely makes ant difference. Are you a fx trader?. Makes me think you have an agenda to push people to exchange now...
James ************
@Jorge ******
I've never traded FX. I trade crypto and a little stocks. And pushing a small group like this for an agenda to make gains on forex trades is comical. It takes hundreds of billions to move it. I was just giving honest advice. I exchange what I need to make it. And when I see large spikes in the US dollar I exchange larger amounts.
Jorge *******
@James ***********
glad you caught my sarcasm. Best advice is exchange when you need it or when it reaches a minimum exchange rate you set. Timing fx fluctuations is like timing the market.

Typically the exchange rate is a little higher in the middle of the month rather than the beginning, or end of the month, when most payments and transfers are made.

I am a trader, don't mess with much forex. But live here in Thailand and I do chart the dxy, and the usdthb chart. Right now it's in a strong downward trend, but possible reversal soon. The dollar lost strength wed when the fed decided to pause the interest rate again. I think a cut is slightly possible next month which would weaken it against the thb again.
Jorge *******
@James ***********
take into account the 10,000 bath giveaway program from the Thao government. This will negate the downward pressure and might even strengthen the usd to over 37 bath

If anyone knew this they would be rich playing Forex. It's rarely worth it trying to time exchange rates and I've given up. Sometimes I waited and it went down. Sometimes I waited and it went up. Now I just do the transfer when I need it and it equals out in the end.
Burnard ************
@Brandon ***********
If you are patient, the Dollar generally goes up against most currencies. Now is not the time to bet against the Baht though. They are still recovering from COVID despite the Thai Government Bureaucracy's best efforts to trip up the economy.

You can wait a long time if you bet against the Euro or Brit Pound vs USD though.
