I am currently on 4 months long service leave and almost finished my 60 day tourist visa. I was hoping to do a border run to Krong Poi Pet this coming weekend to re-enter and kick off another 60 days.
I have heard there is some unrest with Thai-Cambodia relations. Has anyone been there in the last few days.? TIAπ

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is on a 60-day tourist visa and plans a border run to Krong Poi Pet. There are concerns regarding the current state of Thai-Cambodia relations, with multiple comments suggesting caution given the possibility of unrest and closed borders. Alternatives like flying to Vientiane or considering other border crossings are discussed, along with required documentation for border re-entry and potential visa extensions.
There is a widespread controversy . . . .some Thai media insists that the government ordered the Army to keep the borders open. However, my girlfriend who lives close to the border, today told me that all border checkpoints remain closed - the Thai Army does not listen to what their government says. So I wouldn't put much trust into what the Bangkok Post or The Nation has published

You can extend another 30 days if you go to immigration.
however it doesn't change a Jota from Brandon's correct advice: Avoid Poi Pet at any costs! Except if you use a "Visa Run Company". They can rest assure that your border run can be made on the same day. They will check your passport stamp history, and if they think that you will be rejected, they won't even let your board their Minivans
I saw that also. I should probably make another arrangement to be safe. I have a car and we were going to drive there and walk across. I'm actually only an hour and a half from the Myanmar border, but that's closed too.π₯²
always prepare an alternative and make sure to have all necessary documentation and all will go well

Thanks for the comments. Looks like a plane ride to Vientiane as I've left it too late to get a sleeper. Thanks.π

Youβll probably have to contact a landborder transport company regarding the current situation for border bounces to Cambodia.

Doesn't matter what the situation is, do not go to Poi Pet or you'll most likely be denied entry back into Thailand and find yourself traveling to the airport to fly back. Pick a different border or fly somewhere else and back.
I have been through Nong Khai/Vientiane border crossing before and last time I did stay 2 nights. This time I am considering flying direct to Vientiane and only staying one night. My wife's ageing parents are ill and she will not be able to accompany me this time. What are the 3 proofs you speak of.?
proof of cash 20,000 THB (must be CASH, not credit cards), proof of onward travel within 60 days, and proof of booked accomodation for the first few nights
ok, I understand. I have the 3.π I've been working in Oz and have a history of flying in and out of here for 7 years. The Authorities know of my address here. I usually work for 4 weeks and come over for 12 nights. Over the last few years I've had a 60 day and topped it up with another 30 and I've had 2x45day visas. This time I'm here for 4 months. I've booked a bus run with a visa service for baht 4k after considering the advice I've received. That is actually cheaper than flying to Laos or Vietnam. π
as long as the Immigration officer at the border accepts your background history, you are good with visa-exempt entries. I know some oil riggers who are doing the same
