Hi I’m looking at moving to Thailand for 3 months. I’m thinking I will start in Phuket to begin with, then work out from there where I want to be based, as I want to experience the Muay Thai lifestyle, what is the best way to go about this regarding a visa.. should I do boarder runs or are there other options.

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking visa advice for a 3-month stay in Thailand, beginning in Phuket to engage in Muay Thai training. Community responses suggest various visa options: obtaining a tourist visa, a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) with potential 30-day extension, or a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) allowing for up to 9 months with strategic border runs. It's noted that an Education Visa (ED) might require a full-time commitment at a gym which may not be feasible for short-term training. It's recommended to connect with local gyms for guidance on visas and training options.

Try Koh Samui !!

Buy the 6 month Multi Entrance Visa (METV) cost is $200 or the equivalent in your countries currency…you will get stamped in for 60 days at a time every time you enter Thailand. Then you can extend it for 30 days at a cost of ฿1,900 at your local immigration office for a total of 90 days in Thailand…

if you do a strategic border bounce (leave Thailand then return, sane day or longer up to you) days before it’s expiration date they return before it’s expired. You will get an additional 60 days then extend it for 30 days at a cost of ฿1,900 at your local immigration office. You will get a total of 9 months out of a 6 month visa

Good Luck

If you actually want to learn Muay Thai life style then it takes a full time commitment, your whole day, and night. Those offering ED visas don't have this type of gym. You live there, eat there, and train. For just three months just get a tourist visa before you leave NZ. If you want to stay longer, and train, then get a multi-entry tourist visa, that can give you almost 9 months. You don't need an ED visa to train. You can go to school on any visa

Are you say you want to learn Muay Thai? If so you can try a ED visa but you would have to stay in one place in order to attend classes.

SETV and a 30 days extention, gives you 90 days.

A tourist visa from the Wellington embassy will get you 60 days. Cost is approx $60. You can extend that once for 30 days and that would get you your three months.

As a NZ citizen you could arrive with no visa and get stamped for 30 days. Also extendable once for 30 days and then do a border bounce to repeat. However your airline may need a onward flight out of Thailand within the initial 30 days allowed with no visa.
