Could you please recommend the hostel or hotel near the border?

I think it would be far from border if i stay in vientiane.

Update

I took a train from bkk to Vientiane and vice versa.

Stayed 1 night. Came back next day.

No questions asked !!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster planned a quick border run from Bangkok to Vientiane, specifically looking for accommodation near the border. They ultimately took a train, stayed one night, and returned successfully without any issues. The discussion included suggestions for border run services, alternative travel methods (like flying to Malaysia), and various perspectives on how long to stay outside Thailand to appear compliant with visa regulations. Several commenters emphasized the benefits of staying in Vientiane for a more enriching experience and the challenges of finding suitable lodging close to the border.

What is your passport nation?

Avoid the stress...

Use an experienced border run service company to take you to the Thai border, cross and reenter Thailand with a New 180 day STAMP..the SAME DAY.

Use this one FROM Bangkok...same day

I wouldn’t do that if I were you, you’re gonna run into trouble if you’re trying to bounce super quick right when you just got in stay a few days at least.

If you’re on a tight schedule just fly to Malaysia and back on the sane day. There’s no visa fee to enter Malaysia either

Same day returns by air are not the best thing to do. Stay at least a night. Anyone can find the time to make themselves more available. They might be busy this week but available next week. You literally only go out for a night or two. Easily doable over a weekend.

As a DTV holder, you're technically a tourist and can't use a flimsy excuse like "I'm busy working!" You can work from anywhere. You bring your laptop with you and work from Malaysia or Laos for the short time you're there.

it’s a multiple entry visa. You can come and go in ten minutes if you like. There are other multiple entry Thai visas which people bounce out/in with by just walking across a border and walking back in again. There’s no ‘I need to make this look reasonable’ like it’s a genuine trip or visit. You can use the multiple entry aspect of it exactly how you want.

If I’m in Phuket, for instance, and I have any kind of multiple entry access to Thailand (examples of which are; multiple re-entry permits on an extension of stay, a multiple entry tourist visa, and the, seemingly discontinued, multiple entry one year Non-Imm O) I could decide I want to go shopping in kuala lumpur for the day, fly out in the morning and fly back the same evening. There would be no questions as to why I didn’t stay for the weekend, or what was the purpose of my visit to Malaysia. It’s a perfectly normal thing to do, it takes the same amount of time as flying to Bangkok, and if your current visa or extension allows for it, you can easily do it. People fly to Singapore for the day quite regularly, it’s under two hours.

I think you’re inventing restrictions and limitations on this visa that don’t exist.

As for the cost, there are visa run companies charging around ฿6000 for hours in a van whereas a same day return Phuket to KL on Air Asia 08:15 outward, 19:35 return flight is less than half that.

There might be questions though. You can't say there won't be.

I've done same day border runs by land (on multiple entry visas) in the past. I've also done same day runs (not for immigration purposes, but other reasons) on an extension of stay with multiple re-entry permit too.

I don't think doing a same day run by air is a good idea...aside from the fact it's too tedious and stressful. Much easier to get in a van or drive to the border yourself (depending on where you're living) but for Phuket, you can go to Ranong.

Only issue with Ranong is, they will ask for

Baht cash to exit if you're on any visa, including the DTV. You might be able to talk your way out of it, but otherwise, you have to use an agency and pay them a couple of thousand Baht.

Spend the least amount of time possible, if that's what you want. Everyone knows what you're up to anyway

One night too much. What do you think they do all day. Stamping in visa dodgers non-stop, these border crossings serve virtually zero other purpose.

Firstly why not just spend a couple of nights in Vientiane? It's a fantastic place and you'll find food and experiences you will either struggle to find in Thailand or simply can't be found here.

Secondly, if you did have to do a quick turnaround, then just cross the border and come straight back.

Vientiane is 20km from the border crossing (technically, it's on the border but you can't cross there, you have to travel to the friendship bridge).

This takes half an hour or perhaps 40 minutes during morning or afternoon rush hour.

There's no point in spending the night near the bridge on the Lao side. Aside from probably not having any lodging available (I don't remember seeing any) whatever might be available is for locals and unless you speak Lao or Thai and can read the language, you'll struggle to make yourself understood in such places.

99.99% of falang head into town, where hotel staff can usually speak decent English. There will also be transportation available, which won't be the case if you were to spend the night in some dingy dive 3km from the border (if it's even available as mentioned).

thanks so much for your insightful comment. I have to run back because I’m on a tight schedule. I don’t even want to spend a night but if i come back right after crossing the border, I’m afraid they (thailand immigration) might not let me in or ask questions.

You'll have to re organize your schedule I'm afraid. A weekend in Vientiane really isn't something one doesn't have time for. You can always fly there if time is short. Spend a night or two then fly back.

Personally I prefer to stay for couple of days outside of Thailand to make my case look more legit and not to insult whoever decided to issue me the Visa, because that was the purpose of the visa. You can tell that by seeing how complicated the DTV extension is.
Paul *******
Ditto. That's the best way of doing it and much less stressful too.

I stayed in the airport until the next plane back. As I travel with wheelchair, I can sit and wait anywhere. The little café made good business by refilling my ice teas 😂

It’s maybe 20 minutes into town
