Is it normal for Phuket immigration to request I return on the last day of my visa extension to pick up my Non-O visa?

Went to phuket immigration was approved for the non O visa but was told to come back on the last day of my 30 day visa extension from my visa exemption to leave passport there and pickup the next day. Does not sound right to me because it’s the last day and I will be without a passport for a day and on overstay for a day . Sounds crazy to me . Is this correct of them to tell me to come back the last day ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual was informed by Phuket immigration to return on the last day of their 30-day visa extension (from a visa exemption) to pick up their newly approved Non-O visa, leaving their passport overnight. Several comments from community members indicate that this procedure is standard, noting that it is common for immigration offices in Phuket to retain passports for processing. The majority agree that as long as the individual received a receipt indicating their passport is "under consideration," it should not result in an overstay issue. It is suggested to trust the immigration process, despite initial concerns.

Same with my Non O also...returned today as the date on the blue paper had, they kept my passport, stamped the blue paper with a new date and gave it to me. They told me to come back on the new stamp date which is 6 days later, to get passport with visa, and also do not take a Que ticket, just return to the same window number @Chonburi Immigration Office.

It's thailand it's normal anything is possible

Normal i have had this.

That is usual for as you application gets sent to another office for final approval. Foe example mine is done in NST and is sent to Songkhla district office for final approval. ( like big brother wanting to check thing again). I just accept it as it has to be done in the province where you live. No additional charge is applied when you get it stamped.

Another reason to use an agent...

They have volunteer immigration staff (the gringos) at Phuket who you can ask any questions. They are very helpful

Gringos? I take offence.

Were you part of the Survey many many years ago about the word Farang. It was before it was made an official part of Thai Language (there version of oxford english)

@Michael *******
no I wasn’t. I thought it was a abbreviation of “French” in Thai.

No not directly its from arabic word for Franks (which became France) Ferengi then that became Farang here. Indian and Arabic traders who were here way before Europeans passed the word

It’s normal in Phuket that you apply and leave your passport overnight. All long term extensions need “signed off” by the head of department who will do so the following morning, hence the pick up after 2pm.

It's weird to doubt Phuket immigration. It's their job to tell you how and went to get your visa. Nobody here can give you better info then the immigration officer. Brandon is probably right, likely you got the under consideration stamp.

in theory but sometimes there are language barriers so no harm in checking. Theres no need for this forum if not

It hasn’t been ‘approved’ as yet, it’s pending… On the last day (I don’t know why it’s the last day) it will be given and If not, you’ll receive a 7 day exit visa. Just been through the same and they kept my passport from Friday until Monday.

@Phil ****
this is normal. Agree with Brandon Thurkettle's comment
Graham ******
Yes because they'll give you a receipt you can present if asked to produce your passport
Brandon ************
I'm assuming they gave you a stamp in your passport that says "under consideration" with the date for you to return as well as a blue receipt.

Go back on the date they provided and bring your passport and that blue receipt. You'll receive your visa at that time.

no they didn’t put any stamp or small print in passport or the blue receipt. Only verbally told me to return on the last day of my extension. I also did the video call after leaving immigration at my condo. Just waiting until the last day seems unfair if they could tell you to leave Thailand immediately within 5 days

@Phil ****
you don't get to decide when you return. They decide. If they accepted your application then they believe you fulfilled the requirements or they would not have accepted

they gave me the blue slip which is only a receipt of money paid . No stamp in passport or slip stating under consideration or when to return . Only verbally told to return on the last day of my extension

look closely at your entry stamp, it will have small print under it.

Something like non-o and a long number, your visa number.

It's the equivalent of an under consideration stamp.
