Next week I will apply for a one-year extension of stay for non O visa (age over 50) AND the multiple re-entry permit. 

My understanding is that I can get the one-year extension of stay on one day, but have to return the next day to get the multiple re-entry permit. 

1. Is that correct? (Re: going back on another day for re-entry permit) 

2. Will I have to leave my passport with immigration overnight when applying for either the one-year extension or the multiple re-entry permit? (I vaguely recall that might be the case).

Thank you. I am trying to figure out how many trips to immigration I must make.

You can get extension and re-entry permit in same day. Extension first, reentry second.

They will keep your passport for less than 1 hour usually.
