Advice please I have amnesty until until 31st October having paid to extend in September before amnesty was announced- went to Samui immigration to extend until end of November but they said I need to hand over my passport to them for this and it could take up to a week before it would come back - is this correct - I’ve never had to do this previously.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification about the process of extending their visa during an ongoing amnesty period, specifically whether they are required to surrender their passport for a week to get the extension approved. Community comments indicate that while some have experienced similar situations, many report that extensions can be processed quickly, often without the need to relinquish a passport for an extended period.
There was a post in the Samui group of someone in the same situation. They handed over their passport and then the next day they were called back to collect it with a stamp through til 30th November
