Will I be notified if my Non-O visa application is refused before my current tourist visa expires?

I have submitted my application at Phuket IO to change from a tourist visa to a Non O 90 day extension based on retirement. The application and supporting documents have been checked and I have been given a blue receipt with no date on it.

I have been told to go back on 31st October 2022 with my passport to see if my application has been approved. I am worried as 31st October 2022 is the day my current 30 day tourist visa extension expires and I would have to leave Thailand as no further extensions are permitted.

Would I be notified earlier if the application is refused or, as I have been given a blue receipt, does this mean the application is approved and I just wait until the day my current tourist visa expires and go back for a new stamp?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual has applied to change their tourist visa to a Non-O 90-day extension based on retirement and received a blue receipt without a date, instructing them to return on October 31, 2022. Concerns arise about the expiration of their tourist visa on the same day. Community comments clarify that this situation is normal, and it’s unlikely the application will be denied at this stage. Instead, they will typically receive the visa and a new stamp on the return date, as the immigration office does not usually process such applications without sufficient reason.

As others have stated it’s normal procedure. The Phuket office don’t have the authority to sign off on a in country non O visa. Your application gets sent to their head office for authorisation - which is why they ask for two copies of everything one stays and one is sent. You wouldn’t have had got that far if there was any issue with the application. The date to return is just to allow enough time for the sending/authorisation/return of the paperwork.

when you go back on the last day your current stamp is valid for they will ink in the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp

That's just how they do it there, you are fine, it is totally normal and there is nothing out of the ordinary at all with it.

I have never seen them accept the paperwork, take your 2000baht and then deny the 90 day Non-O visa. If that was gonna happen they'd have turned you away and given the paperwork back to you without taking your money.

As James stated, this is normal practice, so nothing to worry about, unless they found something really irregular about your application the next step is a formality. Congratulations!

What happened is that the officer you handed over the documents is very capable to check if everything is in order but does not have the authority to stamp your passport. All documents are now at a supervisor to consider, it is rear that during that period an application gets denied,.

You go back on 31 October and normally get the visa and a new 90 day stay or in worst case scenario a stamp application not approved and 7 days to leave the country.

You are okay 👍

Just return to the Thai immigration office as instructed on October 31 and get your stamped approval.
