Is it necessary to cancel previous visa extensions in order to start the process for a NON-B visa in Thailand?

Hello, is it true that in order to start the process for a non-b, any previous visa extensions must be cancelled in the provence it was given?

I believe you will have to go where it was issued to get it cancelled, but before you book the trip I'd sure make a visit to the immigration office you use now and see what they say about it.
