Do I need to cancel my Non-O visa before applying for a Non-B visa at a Thai consulate?

Hello,

I have found a new job. I am currently on a non-O (Guardian = accompanying my Children on non-ED) Visa.

I will need to

1- get a non-B visa for myself

2- Later, change my spouse's visa and children's visa so they get non-O linked to my non-B.

QUESTION:

Could anyone please confirm if I really need to first go to Immigration here to cancel the existing visa, before going abroad to a thai consulate to get the new visa ?

I keep getting different answers .

Thanks a lot.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a Non-O visa and needs to obtain a Non-B visa after securing a new job. They are seeking clarification on whether it is necessary to cancel their existing Non-O visa at the immigration office before applying for the new Non-B visa at a Thai consulate abroad. Responses indicate that if the user is within the first 90 days of their Non-O visa, they can leave without cancellation. However, if they have already extended their Non-O visa, they must cancel it in person at the immigration office before applying for the Non-B visa outside Thailand.

Q. if I really need to first go to Immigration here to cancel the existing visa, before going abroad to a thai consulate to get the new visa ?

-> Depends on what stamp you are on now.

IF you have already applied for an extension after the first 90 days, yes, you should go to the immigration office that issued your extension to apply for cancellation. Then you need to leave Thailand once. You may apply for a Non-B at the Thai embassy/consulate outside Thailand or at the local immigration office depending on the documents from your employer.

Meanwhile, IF you are still on the first 90 days stamp from your Non-O visa, you just can leave Thailand without cancelling anything.

Hi,we all are on extension of stay (for 1 year). So, what happens if I leave Thailand without having cancelled the visa, and also without getting a re-entry ?

and get a non-O from embassy outside thailand...What will happen when I come back ?

, you may be able to apply for visas at the Thai embassy outside Thailand. But you cannot apply for long-term extensions until you cancel the previous extensions and you also might be fined for not cancellation correctly, when you finally cancel the old one, up to 20K baht.

I also forgot to mention that the new visas will be handled with BOI

What really confuses me is that they also told us that if we leave the country without applying for a re-entry permit, our visa/extensions are automaticaly cancelled..

Thanks . I understand. To cancel these extensions (for 3 kids +me), can someone do this on my behalf at immigration? Or de we have to all go in person?

Also, how long before our flight should be cabcel ? We all fly at different dates...

, as a rule, applicants have to go in person. It depends on the immigration office how long in advance they would accept cancellation application. Many allow you to do up to a few weeks earlier, but there are offices that accept cancellation application only on the last day.
