Good day everyone.

My visa and work permit will be expiring on 30th September and I will be leaving the country on that day to get a new visa.

My question: Is it necessary to cancel my visa and work permit since they are both expiring the same day that I will be exiting the country?

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster asked if it is necessary to cancel their expiring visa and work permit since they plan to leave Thailand on the same day they expire. Responses by community members suggest that it is advisable to cancel both the work permit and the visa to avoid future complications with new visa applications or work permits. The process involves going to the department of labor to turn in the expired work permit and obtaining a receipt, which should then be presented at the immigration office to cancel the extension of stay.

You go to the dept of labor with your expired work permit, turn it in, get a receipt that you cancelled it, take that receipt to the immigration office and cancel your current extension of stay. IF you can't leave the country that day you need to buy the 7 day get outta thailand stamp for 1900baht which gives you a week to exit the country.

Doing it this way makes sure that IF you ever wanna work again here you won't have a problem getting either a work permit or an extension of stay on a new visa.

This comes up a lot and people weigh in saying seeing as they expire it's okay to leave, others say go cancel your work permit, then go cancel your extension of stay.

I tend to agree that it's better to go cancel your work permit, take that receipt of cancellation to the immigration office and cancel your extension because you can run into problems down the road when you go to get a new extension (should you ever work here again)..

What exactly happened? My employer is also confused as to what needs to be done...my work visa and extension expire tomorrow and my employer has said nothing to me about what the next step needs to be. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly so I don't run into fines/issues when I catch my flight home. TIA!

I'm not very sure. So to avoid having overstay I have to leave on the same day.

I'll chime in that this question comes up often and it's so different for each person because as we know, T.I.T and what one immi officer says is ok or not can be totally different from another.

I personally ran into MANY problems when I finished my contract and my prev employer didn't cancel anything. Supposedly they were told that since I finished my contract, nothing else needs to be done. They were so wrong!
