Hello,

Question about Work Permit and Visa.

I'm going to leave my job soon and have a new job.

1) Can I cancel the work permit by myself? (Work permit expired Dec 2019)

If yes, how can I do it?

2) Currently on Extension of stay (based on Visa Non B). When I cancel my work permit, does it do anything to my visa? Can I stay with the same visa?

3) For my new job, they told me I have to get out of the country and re apply for a Visa.

Any other way to do it inside the country?

Thank you guys!!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on how to cancel their expired work permit and understand the implications for their current visa status as they transition to a new job in Thailand. They need clarification on the cancellation process, the relationship between the work permit and their ongoing visa, and whether it's possible to apply for a new visa without leaving the country.

You cancel your work permit at the Ministry of Labor, if you have the letter with the last day of working you can do this in advance. With the documents of cancellation you visit the Immigration Office and cancel your Extension of Stay in advance on the last day of working. On the last day of working you leave the country, get another visa and start the process again with your new employer.

If 15th May is your last day you leave that day. Take the letter from your Employer and go a few days earlier to cancel both Work Permit and Extension of Stay on the 15th and make travel plans, Or do it on the last day, 15th May, apply for a new Extension of Stay, this will be not approved and get 7 days to leave the country, cost of application will be 1.900 Thb.

I will be quiting my work.

Also another question, when I cancel my work permit and my extension of stay, how long do I have until I need to leave the country?

Let's say for example, my employer and I agree on the last day to be May 15th. I do the cancelation on that same day, do I need to leave the following day?

Robert Lagas if his work permit expired in December 2019 as stated, does that pose a problem for him when he goes to the Ministry of Labor and Thai Immigration? He says he is on Extension of stay NonB...yet he quit work or work permit expired last December.
