Is it better to apply for a Muay Thai DTV visa in my home country or in Asia?

So I've decided to go with a Muay Thai DTV. I've found a gym in Bangkok and have all my requirements in order. My nearest embassy is in Washington DC but I also plan on traveling in Asia a bit before heading to Thailand. Is there an advantage in applying in your home country or elsewhere? I'm going to be in Manila and Jakarta anyway so thinking about applying there.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to apply for a Muay Thai DTV visa while traveling in Asia, considering whether to apply in their home country (USA) or in other cities like Manila or Jakarta. Comments suggest both DC and Manila have their advantages: DC allows for online application but may have longer processing times, while Manila offers a quicker turnaround. Some community members advise that having the visa issued in countries like the USA, Canada, or Europe may ease re-entry into Thailand, while others discuss the straightforward nature of the visa requirements.

if you're in the US now, can get the documentation from the Muay Thai Gym for the DTV and show proof of funds in your account in the US, just apply thru there

It's online, you should have it approved in about 5-7 working days, then you can just print the DTV and fly in

remember if you're in the US you're controlled by which embassy you use by your state

here's the list

I'd personally prefer to have one issued from the USA, Canada, Europe, Oz or New Zealand. Maybe the re-entries will be easier if they know for sure a dodgy agent wasn't used in Laos or somewhere. But up to you.

why would you need an agent for it though? The requirements are pretty straightforward.

I'd imagine some people are using agents as they don't meet the financial requirements.

Does it start as soon as you enter in Thailand or from the minute that you get it?

Same as every visa... the validity (5y) starts with the day you apply (or the approval). The permission to stay (180d) starts with your entry.

so do you have to pay for one class and thats it for a 5 year visa? Or does immigration require a new class every year?

This is a question nobody can answer yet... we will know it for sure in about 3 month when the first people go for an extension. What seems to be pretty clear at the moment is that you don't need to renew anything if you do a border bounce every six month. But TiT... things can change quickly... ;-)

Advantage DC: You can apply eVisa online but have heard long processing time. Advantage Manila: 3 business day processing time.

Why not submit in Washington? We had a few successful applications there. Jakarta is also no drama though. ( I own a muay Thai gym)

I've heard it takes a while and I'd like to get my travels started sooner rather than later. How long did Jakarta take?

Tiger Eye Muay Thai and MMA. A few people in this group recommended them and they've been really helpful so far. I'll post their website below but I don't know if that's allowed so it might get removed.
