TLDR : Answer Summary
The availability of internet banking in Thailand has been shifting towards mobile banking applications. Many traditional banking services are moving away from web-based interfaces, with banks primarily focusing on mobile apps for both personal and business accounts. Users have shared experiences with various banks like Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank, indicating that while internet banking is accessible, its technology is evolving, and some users may find it limited compared to app functionalities. Additionally, there are discussions on internet connectivity and whether certain SIM cards can be used for banking purposes.

Marcos **********
No. Thailand don't have internet bank yet. We need to go to banks in person and stand in line for hours to withdraw 100 THB and use it to pay bills.
Alan ******
Only if you have internet and a bank account 😞
Rio ******
Yes it is. All of my banking is internet based.
Dave ********
Internet banking has to be done using a phone app. The sim card and phone number being in the same name as the bank account holder.

I have a tablet which recognises my finger print which I use for UK banks.

Cannot use it for Thai banking.
David ******
Yes it is
Jeremy *********
Does the phone you have in Thailand to open a bank account have to be a contract phone sim or will a sim with 3 months from the airport suffice
David **********
@Jeremy ********

Just tried Kasikorn Bank through a browser. That works fine.

KASIKORNBANK.com -> set to English at the bottom of the menu -> click on the lock at the top -> choose Kbiz -> login.
Dave **********

Aaron **************
@Dave *********

Peter **********
@Dave *********

Robin *******
@Peter *********

Ken **********
One of my banks will and the the other will not. Make sure your bank is aware you are out of country. One of my banks blocks everything digital from Thailand.

@Nicky *******
thank you for sharing us. I order Wise card and put a few hundreds in my Wise account in Australia now aiming to use in Thailand. I never use Wise before but some people recommend Wise mainly for higher exchange rate and lower ATM fees.
Karl **********
Do they have internet ??
Aaron **************
@Karl *********

Is that what you want to hear? Duh!
Ian *******
@Karl *********
I'm sure it was intended as sarcasm, but still a stupid comment.
Giovanni **********
Yes
Chris *******
"Internet" website hosted banking is being phased out.

Phone apps are now the only way to go.

You can only use the app on an authorized device, with security.

The apps are good but logging in on your laptop or desktop is a thing of the past.
Brook ********
@Chris ******
False.

Kasikorn and many other banks offer Internet banking.

No large business wants thier banking on some employees phone.
Chris *******
@Brook *******
not false the banks are phasing them out. Some are still working for now.
Thom **********
@Chris ******
too bad. I have bad eyesight. I try to use a laptop for everything.
Tom ********
It's Thailand not Mogadishu!
Denise **********
@Tom *******
I believe even Mogadishu has Internet banking. 🤣
Colin **********
I have kbank and Bangkok bank Internet banking, hardly use them, there not getting much development work very old technology, I suspect they will go sometime in the future. Everyone is using a smart phone.

@Stewart *****
Me and my wife use Krung Thai App and we canceled the BKK App ,because it's to complicated for us.
Glenn *****
@Stewart *****

Brandon ************
Most Thai banks are phasing out internet banking except for business accounts. Everything is done by phone app now and the phone number (SIM) must be registered to the same name as the one on the bank account.
Ralph *******
@Brandon ***********
I misunderstood. To me the phone app is internet banking.
Peter **********
@Ralph ******
Sure. And calling someone through Messenger or Line is a “phone call”. Right…

Take an umbrella next time when you shower because it’s raining there. 🤣
Ralph *******
@Peter *********
Oh mr clever dick. Try using the app without internet.
Peter **********
@Ralph ******
At least my dick is clever. 😉
Kim ****************
@Peter *********
hmm I doubt it
Ralph *******
Jon ********
@Brandon ***********
that is internet banking, accessed on an app from the phone.📞
David *******
@Jon *******
Krungsri bank will NOT allow customers over 70 years of age to register App on phone It's a bloody disgrace
Reinhard ********
@David ******
I Had an issiue with Krung sri Last week.I wanted t to pay the carloan of my wife cash as every month.Couldn'do IT because they wanted to See my Passport!I've done it several times before and showed the IDcard of my wife and never someone asked for my passport! Jon ********
@David ******
are you serious? Why? I have been with them for 10 years and quite happy.
David *******
@Jon *******
Because they now have an age limit, which is 70 yo, and that info I got from branch at Central Pattaya
Jon ********
@David ******
So you can't get the app. How do you pay you bills?
David *******
@Jon *******
Cash is king, I only used the krungsri Web sites to check when money arrived from Australia. Now have to go to ATM
Jon ********
@David ******
lots of places are cashless these days
Val *******

@David ******
which is not very good.Its kind of discriminations.
Joey ***********
@Jon *******
Thai banks have distinguish between mobile banking and internet web site banking even though both services utilize the internet as the medium. I can no longer log in on my computer to do banking online. You can scan pay, inquire, withdraw, transfer, deposit, using mobile app.
Val *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
I think that is all about terminology thing. I use common wealth bank in Australia and before there is mobile app I use internet banking so called netbanking. Now I use only mobile app which alot more easier and efficient. Thank you all for your inputs. I love this plat form.
Val *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Joey **********
that is great thank you
Peter **********
@Jon *******
Yea, it’s banking through internet but it is not named internet banking.

Banking through apps is called “mobile banking”. Banking through browsers is called “internet banking”.

So your remark is technically correct but nobody uses the term. 👍
Jon ********
@Peter *********
who hoo thanks for the clarification ! lol
Brandon ************
@Jon *******
That is not internet banking. Internet banking is a website login (internet) setup separately to your account.
Gary **********
@Brandon ***********
so your saying if we don't have internet on our phones we can still use the banks app, amazing!
Jon ********
@Brandon ***********
oh so when you log in from the app on the iPhone it’s not internet banking in lol 😂
Jim ********
@Jon *******
two separate things. Internet banking and mobile banking. One is from a browser and one is through an app
Jon ********
@Jim *******
and both use the internet
Andy ************
@Jon *******
Surely you can't be that thick?
Jim ********
@Jon *******
irrelevant. They are 2 separate things in banking terms
Roberto *********
@Jon *******
Correct. Internet Banking is different to using the app.
Ralph *******
@Brandon ***********
Wow! So what will the Thai people use?
Robin *******
@Ralph ******
the Thais will use cheques and the postal service
David ****************
@Robin ******
in Thailand. Only businesses have checks from my understanding. Personal people do not have checking accounts. Just debit cards. And transactions from phone app
Lloyd *********
@Robin ******
who still uses cheques outside of the USA?
Trevor ***********
@Lloyd ********
I do in Australia
Kai ******
@Lloyd ********
Philippines
Peter **********
@Robin ******
Only those born and raised in the USA. 🤣
Gerg **********
@Ralph ******
Look around. Almost every thai person is looking at their phones. Even the kids have phones. Everything here is done with phones and apps whether thai or foreigner.
Brandon ************
@Ralph ******
Their phones like they are using now. Most of the Thai accounts don't even come with internet banking as default and you had to go to the bank separately to request they set it up. I don't know a single Thai person that even has an online banking login.
Peter **********
@Brandon ***********
I do know one. My wife had internet banking setup years ago before she came to Netherlands. I believe I am the only one who has ever used that.
Stefan *******
@Peter *********
i also use internet banking,have never used on my phone/app. It have been like that the last 12 years on Bangkok bank
