Just want to know if any expats from the UK use Wise and if they do, do they have trouble with the money coming instantly or do they usually have to wait for a few hours or even the next day?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community discussion reveals mixed experiences among UK expats using Wise for money transfers to Thailand. While many report that transfers are usually instant, particularly to banks like Kasikorn, others cite delays, especially with Bangkok Bank, where transfers can take one to several days depending on factors such as transfer timing and bank functionality. Overall, while Wise is favored for its speed, users are advised to be mindful of which Thai bank they are transferring to and the timing of their transfers.
I have a first direct bank account in the UK and a Kasikorn account in Thailand. I normally do 2 transactions per month which both go to Kasikorn, 1 to myself and the other to my Thai partner.
Sometimes the money is in the Kasikorn accounts instantly and other times takes longer. The longest it has taken over the last 11 months has been a couple of hours
I have been using them for some years now and the transfers normally take seconds. I did worry on one occasion but this was down to the Thai bank and not wise and it was sorted inside a day.
I'm not from the UK but use Wise and it all depends on who at the Wise end decides which Thai bank to carry out the transaction , so if it is done by debit card or CC happens in seconds but you pay more of a fee. Bank transfer from my NZ bank to Thailand takes 4 hours if they, Wise decide to use Kasacorn but if they use BKK Bank it takes up to 8 hours. You can look at your recept and it details what bank they used for the transfer. Last week I did a Wise transfer from NZ to BKK Bank, my transfer to Wise was at 0630 am my bank sent the money to Wise at 0830 Wise then paid out at 1045 using BKK Bank money I'm my BKK Bank acc 1415
I have used Wise for a long time to transfer UK gov.pension weekly.Always in my SCB account in a matter of a few minutes.Last week for a change used Bangkok Bank and it took a day and a half,so back to SCB.
Usually 6 seconds to Kasikorn. I usually transfer GBP to WISE and convert to Baht when I like the rate....then I transfer on the 1st of the month (for ease of identification for Immigration)
Wise is great Bangkok bank is a waste of space if you transfer on a Friday you wont get your money till Monday afternoon Kasikorn bank is great and instant.
With Revolut to Krungthai funds can arrive in under 1 minute, but during banking holidays it can take longer. With Bangkok Bank it was often variable with no indication of when funds might arrive Avoid Bangkok Bank at all costs.
Since they changed to bank of thailand not instant normally delayed. Plus changing for holding multi currencies in next two months to everything instantly converted to thai baht. We need to find better options. I would suggest revolut whilst you still have uk address.
My transfers to SCB usually instantaneous although there have been times of delays up to a few hours. Never stress about as a lot people do because of their expectations.
Used Wise for one and a half years to transfer funds to Thailand from the US monthly. Wise was very fast (usually same day or next day) and offered the best exchange rate. Not anymore. I started having problems with Wise last year. Transfers were late, often taking four or five days. Sometimes Wise would just hold on to my money for several days with no explanation. It made money management very difficult in Thailand, particulary with rent and paying for expenses.
I finally switched to Remitly a few months ago. The exchange rate is slightly worse, but Remitly transfers funds instantly in most cases. The longest I ever had to wait is under 30 minutes, but it's usually instant with Remitly.
Been using Wise for a while now and it’s always been instant literally within seconds of completing the transfer information, however last night there was a delay but only around ten minutes give or take. Apart from that it’s never been an issue.
Like a lot of the other people here, if you send it to the Bangkok Bank it is around two the next banking day. (Never timed it to the nearest minute 🤣). K-Bank is almost instantaneous but my wife prefers the Bangkok Bank app and doesn’t mind waiting.
Iv been using mine for metro payments and paying bills at restaurants and bars etc. works fine however haven’t withdrawn yet but sore it will be fine. I already used it in an atm “to check balance” in order to activate contactless
I think it depends on the receiving bank. Bangkok Bank is usually 2:13 PM the next day and yes it is that exact. Other banks seem to be almost instantly. Most expats in Thailand seem to be happy with their service.
