I am looking to open Thai bank account, any suggestions on which is the easiest to do business with. I have long term Non-O visa so I am just looking for a friendly bank in Nonthaburi.

I know some have been more aggressive with foreign account holders. I am looking for suggestions and real life experiences.

Thank you for the responses. The mission is complete. I decided to do business with krungthai bank since they were the most helpful. deposit done, app setup done and debit card with visa logo.

I’ve found bangkok bank to be the best especially when transferring funds from overseas. I think all overseas transactions go via BKK Bank in any event. If you’re from the US it’ll be much more difficult! To open an account.

I went to a few of them and they all said I needed something different!! 😆

Went to Kasikom and they did it straight away, they set up internet banking while there, took about 20 minutes, don't waste your time with the others!

Using Bangkok bank means you're more likely to die of old age before you get served.

Kasikorn (K Bank) in and out in 35 mins. Ten of those was setting up the app with a very helpful young lady and setting the facial recognition.

May I recommend that you get there before they open, as banks get very busy very quickly. I was also told that the branch I attended only allowed 20 appointments a day for new accounts

The worst you can do is Bangkok bank. That is, unless you do not mind your account being frozen with ZERO notification. Then have to work 6 weeks with many trips to the bank and jump through all manner of hoops to get YOUR (in theory) money released. The hours total spent in cue was a hoot too.

Whatever bank you choose, make sure it’s local to where you live, as if you have any problems you have to go to the branch you opened the account with

I use Kasikorn for the immigration deposit requirements and I use Bangkok Bank for everything else that is not under the scrutiny of immigration. Transfers up to 2 million Thai bat at Bangkok Bank. Never had an issue with Bangkok Bank other than a technical glitch that locked it for 30 minutes at 12:00 midnight. Very good service from other satellite branches out of main branch province. Under these preferences no issues from either Bank.

In and out in 30 minutes completed. True about initial limitations for withdrawals and transfers but can be adjusted with discussion at your branch

Bangkok bank is the usual one for foreigners. But K bank also is a good choice. Whether easy whether easy or not depends . Remember this is Thailand and so can depend upon who you talk to, the time of day, day of the week. Just keep trying. But smile be understanding, dress appropriately and be firm but gentle. Been with BKK Bank for 14 years. Never had an issue except their new requirement regarding one's mobile phone operating system needing to be 10 or higher.

Kasikorn and SCB seem to run a good scheme for both onlinebanking and live customer service. SCB will issue the bank letter confirming two months seasoning within 20-30 minutes, and a 1-year transfer statement also on the same day

I prefer the SCB app over the Kasikorn app.

can withdraw 30k at SCB ATM but only 20k at Kasikorn.

Kasikorn easiest for 12 month statement for immigration.

I transfer monthly my minimum 65k into Kasikorn then transfer most out to SCB for daily use.

done it with both my Wise card early on and the other day at SCB.

they normally only set up account for max. 20k - just ask staff to assist with changing limits.

service at times a bit how ya going

when account was first opened they activated passbook but not ATM card, FFS.

...They changed their policies about letter of guarntee for retirement visa application with Thai Immigration. I use the 65K baht international wire transfer every month for 12 months and get a annual bank statement to show proof of my monthly transfer to satisfy the valid financial requirement verses holding 400,000 (married) 800,000 (single) to be seasoned in bank. This year Bangkok Bank wouldn't give me a letter of guarantee unless I allowed them to freeze 400,000 baht in my savings account for 4 months. I had no choice but to agree to the upgrade. The immigration officer flat out told me that Bangkok Bank has aggresively been making it more difficult for long term expats to obtain visas and that they are the first to enforce new policies that were put into effect as of 2025. The Thai immigration officer also told me use any other bank but stay away from Bangkok Bank. He knows because he sees first hand how much of a problem they have made for expats. I use WISE for my international transfers from my USA bank to Thailand bank. Kasikorn is the main banking institution that WISE uses to complete the international transfer and if you use another bank the wire transfer can take 24 hours to 5 or 7 days (depending on holidays, weekends, etc.). Using Kasikorn you will get your wire transfer in minutes or same business day.

I use monthly payments too to get my retirement extension. Last year immigration did not require anything from the bank. I provided statements from the banking app and my UK statements along with copies of my bank book. All I asked the bank to do was copy my updated bank book which they did free of charge. Never any suggestion of freezing

0 baht and I don't have half that amount in the account anyway.

...It's a crap shoot. I never had any problems getting a letter of guarantee until this year. It may also depend on the particular branch and it's manager also not every Thai immigration office holds to the same criteria. I live in Buriram you may have a different experience in your province. I had my savings account with Bangkok Bank for 10 years. After this fiasco I opened a new account at Kasikorn Bank. It's probably best to have a couple of savings accounts open just to stay on the safe side. A lot of crack downs going on all because of the scammers and agents depositing money in foreigners bank accounts to meet seasoned funds requirements then withdrawing after mission accomplished.
