TLDR : Answer Summary
A tourist visa for Thailand allows a person to stay for up to 60 days initially, which can be extended for an additional 30 days. Therefore, the maximum duration on a tourist visa can reach 90 days. Additionally, it's important to note that while it's possible to obtain multiple tourist visas, there may be scrutiny regarding lengthy stays, and re-entry may not be guaranteed.

Bottom line is while you may obtain a visa.... its no guarantee Thai immigration will allow you to reenter if you are using back to back visa exempt entries, tourist visas and extensions to live and work in Thailand.
Be prepared to explain why you stay so long in Thailand. (we know of at least three persons denied entry for those reasons in recent months in BKK)
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ENTER VISA EXEMPT...If you must try...
Get at least a Tourist Visa, and be prepared to show IF ASKED by THAI IMMIGRATION on arrival:
...You have a departing air ticket from Thailand.
...20,000 Thai baht in CASH or other equivalent currency.
...your Thailand Pass bookings for Test N Go, sandbox, or quarantine.
...your address following Test N Go, sandbox or quarantine.
For a tourist visa, a person is allowed to spend 60 days. Tourist visas can only be acquired outside of Thailand. ONE 30 day extension of stay based on tourism can be acquired on this visa, giving a total of 90 days.
A person can get "unlimited" tourist visas from the Thai consulate. The amount that can be granted depends on the consulate being used.
Thanks so much. So as long as one gets a tourist visa abroad, technically no limitations per year? What about if one enters on a “visa exempt” 30 day stamp?
By land: Twice in a calendar year (note: Land borders are closed). By air: "Unlimited", until the passport control officer believes you're abusing the system.
