TLDR : Answer Summary
The duration of stay in Thailand on tourist visas depends on the type of entry. There are no formal limits imposed on the number of months you can be in the country using 30-day visa-exempt entries or tourist visas. This means you can potentially stay for extended periods, provided you manage your visa entries appropriately.

I would bet money that on their denial of entry stamp in their passport it says they were denied because they did not have proof of funds to support themselves here.
The reason the immigration office uses that one is there is NO official spent too many days in thailand rule.
My friend was stopped in bkk in the airport and sent back to Austria after a day in prison few weeks ago when tryed to enter without visa..he has been in thailand for 8 months almost not leaving and mostly with 30 days stamps..so it is scary..i heard there is an issue how long you can stay during the year
