Will my parents face issues entering Thailand with a 30-day visa exemption for a 45-day stay?

Hi, my mum and dad are getting on but able. He spoke to the Thai Hull consulate and told them that they were coming to Thailand for approximately 45 days. They told him there is a chance that they might be refused entry at the airport because the 30 day visa is not long enough to cover their stay. This has freaked him a bit. I've told him to ignore that and we can nip to the boarder at Kanchanaburi to get an additional 30 days. Because he's hearing conflicting reports they are potentially not coming to Thailand.

Could you nice people just give them the assurance that a pop to the boarder at Kan will not be an issue and that they'll certainly won't be turned away at the airport.

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses concerns about the possibility of the author's parents being refused entry into Thailand with a 30-day visa exemption for a planned 45-day stay. Responses suggest they can either obtain a 60-day tourist visa beforehand or rely on getting a 30-day extension after arrival. A significant point raised is the importance of proof of onward travel when checking in for their flight from the UK, as airlines may refuse boarding without it. Overall, there is reassurance that they will likely encounter no issues once they reach Thailand's immigration.

Okay hopefully that is clear as mud for you

.. :P

IF they're gonna have a problem as people correctly pointed out it's gonna be checking IN with the airline that is bringing them here. That's because IF by some chance they were flying in on a visa exempt entry (without purchasing a visa from a consulate beforehand) AND they didn't have proof of onward travel within the 30 days they would get AND they were denied entry, it'd be the airlines responsibility to lug them back for free.

That's why airlines request proof of onward travel within the 30 days (even though you can get a 30 day extension at the immigration office once you're here).

They won't have any problem once they hit the ground here with passport control. SO your first order of business is to call the air carrier and see what their policy is on flying to thailand with no visa AND having proof of onward travel longer than 30 days out.

Of course it goes without saying that if you just have them get single entry tourist visas BEFORE they wing their way here they won't have any issues with the air carrier and they'll get stamped in for 60 days ;)

Good Luck, you have enough info to either make an educated decision or be totally confused.. (y)

Go to hull consulate and pay like 20 quid and get a 60 day visa

I flew into bangkok My flight back out of Thailand was long after my visa ran out. They looked at it, and accepted it, cause my flight was on the 89th day. Over 90 days-things are more questioned.

if they are near Hull they can get a tourist visa issued within an hour if they go to the consulate in person

Only read the 1st line, but glad to know your M&D are getting on......no more arguments then? 555

Get an airfare with a flexible return ticket and book the initial return flight within 30 days should be the best thing to do. You can change it as you see fit later on. Alternatively, buy a single entry tourist visa. No need to present onward journey with a visa present.

They need to show proof at UK when boarding that they have tickets out of Thailand before the 30 day entry stamp ends if they dont already have a visa. If they dont they risk refusal of boarding at UK. Was refused myself at airport although i sorted it by signing a weaver but i think that was an exception.

I've had this, a very long time ago though. It was solved back then by the Emirates check-in desk changing my flight to a later date. But, I think now this won't happen. I'd suggest they do the tourist visa, 60 days.

To save any hassle get a 60 day visa before you leave. At your nearest Thai embassy.

When my flights from the UK to Thailand have returns after 30 days they ALWAYS look for a visa in my passport. When asked what would happen if there wasn't one, and I didn't show a ticket out of Thailand within the 30 days as an alternative, they said I would not be able to check in.

In the past few years we have been denied boarding by the airline. They won’t budge. So just spend the $40usd and get a 60 day tourist visa before the flight. Then there will be no problems.

the point is airlines in the UK can (and do) refuse boarding if you dont have a return flight (or a return flight within the term of your entry stamp). They should call the airline for assurances that they will be allowed to travel(and get a letter to state as such, to present at check in.) There would be no issue at thai immigration.

The only issue as someone said will be checking in at airport in U.K. sometimes if your flight back is in 45 days they might not let u board as u will only get a thirty day stamp wen entering.....2 options get a tourist visa or booke a cheap flight for say a thousand baht to somewhere like Cambodia within the 30 days so u can show that when boarding in U.K. as for the other thing a 30 day can be extended at Imigration for another 30 day but that’s not the problem the problem is boarding in U.K. good luck

Air Asia has a one way to Phnom Phen for 1350 b one way. I had kinda the same thing going on, my return trip was 15 days after my 1 year extension was up for renewal, I don't think Cathay would have let me board without it

If they query it with you at immigration just tell them you have already planned to get an extension
Matt *******
The issue would be checking in at the UK airport more than when arriving in Thailand.

If they are refused entry at the airport they can't do a border run because they won't be let in. In reality they will breeze through immigration get a 30 day visa exemption stamp & then (as previously explained) go to Immigration & get a 30 day extension for 1900 baht
Jason *********
He can just go to immigration and get an extra 30 days..

At Hull they should be able to get a 60 day tourist visa. Alternatively they will enter 30 days visa exempt, and you could take them to your local immigration office for a 30 day extension.
