TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry pertains to the possibility for parents traveling to Thailand for four months to extend their stay after an initial 30 days, by leaving the country for a couple of weeks and returning. Commenters provided insights, suggesting that parents could either start with a 60-day tourist visa or a 30-day visa exemption, then apply for a further 30-day extension. There’s no requirement to stay out of the country for two weeks; they can potentially return the same day after exiting Thailand.

Unless they want to go spend a couple of weeks in another country, there's no need for them to do this.

Enter Thailand either with a tourist visa (60 days) or visa exempt (30 days) and then apply for the 30 day extension when possible.

After the extension they would leave and can return immediately, no need to stay out for a couple of weeks. They can even return the same day if they want to.

Then they would get a visa exempt 30 day stamp, and can then leave if they first entered with a tourist visa, or apply for another 30 day extension if they first entered on visa exempt and could only get up to 60 days total that time.

Do you mean that if they enter with a visa exempt, get 30 days extension, leave the country, re enter for 30 days and apply for another extension of 30 days? (That would mean 2 visa extensions in total in the same year 60 days + 60 days)

visa exempt is not visa extension can not extend a visa if you don't have one. You extend the exempt entry

I was under the impression you could only do one extension. Am I incorrect? They are coming out the country after their first 30 days exempt + 30 days extension
Brandon ************
@Nathalie *******
you can do one extension on each entry.

Understood. Clear. I wasn't sure about the number of extensions possible for each entry. So helpful. Thank you millions Brandon.

Are they getting a visa or going to enter 30 days visa exempt?

I think they were going to do the visa exempt ?

@Nathalie *******
ok so can then extend for extra 30 days then need to leave and return and do the same.

Or get a 60 day visa plus 30 day extension then leave and return exempt for another 30 days plus can extend that for another 30days

I believe it is too late for them to get the TR visa as they travel in 2 weeks but they can do exempt 30 days + extend 30 days + out the country + 30 days reset exempt + extension 30 days ? (ie 2 extensions?) Thank you so much for your help/
