Having a brain fart. I get 30 days visa exempt for Canadian passport. if I arrive Jan 31 in Bangkok and leave Feb 29 that should be exactly 30 days right? I'd have to leave Feb 29 if I arrived Jan 31 right to not overstay?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian passport holder arriving in Bangkok on January 31st will have until February 29th to stay in Thailand under the 30-day visa exemption. The day of arrival is counted as the first day, meaning February 29th is indeed the 30th day and must be the departure date to avoid overstaying. It's essential to confirm the length of stay stamped in the passport upon arrival, as there can be variations.

There is a calendar available on the device you are using.
Jo **********
there is the leap year exemption so please take that into consideration
Marc ********
Correct

1 day overstay is cheaper than a visa extension 1900 baht for the visa 500 baht for the overstay and you pay that at the airport, I overstayed due to unforeseen circumstances and jut paid the fine at the airport and have been back to Thailand several times since without a problem .
Jean-francois *******
Even if you overstay , its only 500 tbh .

So , dont worry

I’m just snickering at brain fart 🧠💨🤭 sorry

I always booked a holiday to Thailand for 28 nights, it guarantees you will not overstay, people trying to book the exact number of days they are allowed to stay, your just causing yourself mither and worry, and now your now here asking for everyone's advice 🤷😂

I land on the 29th Feb with a 60 day which I'll extend by 30 and have a flight out 30th May. I'm checking this again haha
Robin ********
The day you fly counts as the 1st day , so depending on time diff . I fly tomorrow but not there till monday so my visa starts from tomorrow .
Louie *********
@Robin *******
totally incorrect

Don’t go with this information please 🙏
Robin ********
@Louie ********
calm down
Raoul **********
@Robin *******
No that is not right. First day is when you LAND inThailand.
Robin ********
@Raoul *********
I'd check on that . Always been told day you fly .
Frank **********
@Robin *******
when you arrive in Thailand is your first day. Nobody from Thai Immigration stamped my passport when I boarded the plane in Chicago lolol.
Steve *******
@Robin *******
Nope, the day you arrive in Thailand is day one NOT the day you fly. Obviously for some people it's going to be the same day but not for everyone
Jon *****
@Robin *******
It's the day you fly... if you arrive the same day 😉
Greg ********
@Robin *******
they stamp when you arrive not when you’ve left. What if it’s taken 48 hours for you to travel
Robin ********
@Greg *******
then it's 2 days . Like I said always been told its from when you fly .
Steve *******
@Robin *******
Then you've been told wrong.
Giri ********
You will get a stamp on your passport on arrival that will tell you exactly how long you can stay.
Noel **********
@Giri *******
Caroline Park yes read that one carefully. Your arrival visa might get 30 days or might be a few more or less. My previous visa exemption was 27 days and then the extension gave me 33. No idea why…
Wolfgang *******
@Noel *********
That's why you should always check the Immigration stamp immediately. Sometimes they are wrong so they can correct it as long as you are still there.

thanks everyone!
Steve *******
its a 30 day not a 1 month. can't go wrong if you understand that.
Nigel **************
Yes correct. Or extend for another 30 days for 1900 baht before 29th
Manfred **********
Yes, day of arrival counts as 1st day.

Then feb29 is your 30th day.

Depart before midnight
Kim *********
@Manfred *********
not necessarily depart before midnight - but be at immigration before midnight
