Is it safe to stay in Thailand for 30 days and leave just before midnight on the last day without overstaying my visa exemption?

Quick question I hope someone can help with…

I plan to arrive in Thailand visa exempt 30 days on Feb 28th at 06:30.

Leaving March 29 @ 20:30.

So technically in Thailand 30 days and 14 hours before my flight back.

My wife here is saying “No Problem” as long as it’s before 12am.

Would like a 2nd opinion from someone that knows for sure as I don’t want to be denied Thai pass over this.

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is planning a visit to Thailand under the visa exemption rule for 30 days, asking if leaving just before midnight on the last day would result in an overstay. Responses clarify that the arrival date counts as day one, and as long as the departure is before midnight on the 30th day, there should be no issues with overstaying. Additionally, it is noted that only the arrival date is stamped in the passport, not the time, adding further reassurance.

What happens if you visit Thailand as a Tourist, you get to Day 29 of your 30 day holiday in Thailand, plan to depart Thailand on Day 30, BUT you test Positive on COVID PCR Test, and need to stay 10 more days in Quarantine ????

After you complete 10 days of quarantine, and go to Immigration Office, to get an extension, or the airport to depart Thailand with your Negative PCR Test results, what would Immigration say regarding the 10 days overstaying your Tourist entry?

Get an official document from the doctor that you had to stay in quarantine.

Thaipass doesn't care about the length of the stay and if you have Visa. So it's only a question of Checkin at airport because airline have to check this. And a question of immigration

I applied for 60 days on thai pass with a 30 day visa on arrival. I had no problems. They allow an additional 30 days if you apply in Thailand.

It is the dates and not the time. You can even stamp out before midnight and stay inside the airport without overstaying.

They only stamp an arrival date in your passport, not a time. So your safe.

I once overstayed by ~12 hours and they couldn’t give me a ticket, but they wrote a note in my passport and were mad… similar situation as what you’re describing. It was CNX.

Chiang Mai airport is the most lay back in all Thailand. I travel through that airport more then 10 times. First, you overstayed by 1 day, not 12 hours, it's counted in days. Second, overstay is 500 baht fine per day, but for a day usually you don't get charged. Do you remember if you got charged and if so, how much? Third, no, you won't have problem when you come back. The stamp you got is a "overstay notice", which tens of thousands of foreigners get every year. I have had several of these stamps in the last 12 years. It's not a problem as long as you overstayed for less then 90 days. Anyone who tell you otherwise is using google at their information.

They noted my PP once. Not for any good reason but I think it is meant to give you problems when you come back.

Even though you really didn't do anything wrong per their rules or laws.

Even if you overstay it's 500 baht per day and a notice in the passport... which is no big deal.
