TLDR : Answer Summary
The traveler can enter Thailand with a visa exemption for 30 days, which can be extended for an additional 30 days, allowing for a total stay of 60 days. To stay for 3 months, they can opt to apply for a single entry tourist visa before arriving, which provides 60 days and can be extended once for another 30 days, totaling 90 days.

Also it is not a 30 day visa on arrival it is 30 days visa exemption

You can apply up to 3 months before travel for an evisa. TR60. Gives you 60 days when you arrive which you can extend for 30 more at any Thai immigration office

you either apply for a single entry tourist visa from the eVisa website at the thai consulate in Ottawa or Vancouver <- which will give you 60 days when you arrive and which you can extend one time for 30 days once you're here giving you 90 days

OR

You show up here without a visa and get stamped in free for 30 days on what's called a visa exempt entry which you can extend one time for 30 more days for 1900baht <-this way only gives you 60 days of stay then you have to exit/re-enter to get a new free 30 day stamp

, for the individual traveler, 20,000thb or equivalent in major currency in cash, proof of accommodation (hotel reservations, etc), and proof of onward travel (ticket with the destination in another country) are what you need to show if you are asked when you enter Thailand on the visa-exempt scheme. Currently, you also need Vaccination certification or a PCR negative result, but these are checked upon your check-in to the airline, not at the passport control at the airport in Thailand.

it appears you are from Vietnam and I'll assume using a Vietnamese passport, in which case you are eligible for visa exempt entry stamp

thanks for the reply. I’m a vietnamese national so visa exemption is possible for me. I’m only wondering because I’ve heard people saying to ensure your chance of being granted entry you’d need cash, onward flight ticket and sometimes proof of lodging. This is all anecdotal though, that’s why I’m asking the admin for a more credible source

visa exempt entry depends on the passport you are using to enter Thailand. There are about 64 countries eligible.

you aren't gonna live here bouncing in and out on visa exempt entries if that's what you're asking. AND there's a limit where you can only do TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a year. By air no official limit
