Can anyone advise on whether it's best to apply for a reentry permit at my local immigration office (Chiang Mai) before I fly or if at the airport is okay? Maybe it doesn't matter either way but was hoping for some best practice guidance/advice? I haven't left the country in 3 years and I'm a little nervous lol. I have an ED visa. Thanks! 🙏🙏🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
When deciding between applying for a reentry permit at the local immigration office in Chiang Mai or at the airport, it's generally advised to opt for the local immigration office ahead of time. Many community members recommend this approach for added peace of mind, as it allows for a more relaxed preparation before traveling. While getting a permit at the airport may be quicker and less hassle, especially if you're familiar with the process, applying in advance can help avoid potential delays that might occur during transit, particularly in Bangkok. Making an appointment at the immigration office can expedite the process significantly.
I have always chosen to get reentry permits at the immigration office near the airport ahead of my journey. They don’t expire until your permission to stay expires so….you can get it ahead of time. I never trusted getting it at the airport in Bangkok because extenuating circumstances might result in me having not enough time there.
Getting it at immigration before leaving town provides me with peace of mind and happiness when starting my actual journey….
I would advice to do at your local Immigration Office as the re-entry permit is valid as long as your current permitted to stay, no rush and no need to be nervous.
