Hi - we have been travelling through Chanthaburi and Rayong and will head back towards Pattaya then Bangkok - we arrived on the 30 day visa exemption and will be looking to extend. I saw on one of the posts below that the Immigration office will want to see the TM30 - we have been using a mix of hotels and AirBNB villas / apartments etc so not entirely sure how to address the TM30 requirement in this instance from AirBNB - I'm travelling on an Australian passport and my wife on a Lao passport (if that is relevant) - does it make any difference if we extend in Rayong or Pattaya etc

TIA for any advice

TLDR : Answer Summary
A traveler on a 30-day visa exemption in Thailand is seeking to extend their stay and is unsure how to handle the TM30 requirement given their mixed accommodation arrangements, including hotels and AirBNB properties. They are traveling on an Australian passport with their wife on a Lao passport, and are questioning the implications of extending their visa in either Rayong or Pattaya. Responses highlight the necessity of obtaining TM30 receipts from accommodation providers, the different rules for Cape Laotian passport holders regarding visa extensions, and recommend alternatives such as a border bounce to get a new entry stamp for the wife.

Thanks all. When staying at private AirBnB properties i presume.the Owner is not too concerned re TM30 requirements if I dont have this- will this be an issue when applying for 30 day extension

, depends on the immigration office. Pattaya (Jometien) asks for TM30 receipt. Not much report at Rayong office. You need to check with the office you really apply for an extension. BTW, Jomtien accepts tourism extension only within your last week.

As both Ellie and James pointed out Laotianz can't get 30 day extensions on entries like you can.

If she wants to stay longer, she's gotta bounce out and back at a border to get a new free 30 day entry stamp.

I suggest that you do a BORDER BOUNCE with your Thai wife. She holds a passport from Laos...

"Under the bilateral agreement between Thailand and Laos, Laotian ordinary passport holders, as well as diplomatic/official passport holders, are visa-exempt for stays in Thailand for up to 30 days."

Suggest you do it with an experienced land border bounce service company as they can confirm her eligibility for a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry into Thailand.

Surely she can get the 30 days entering Thailand from Laos.

Our latest information is that there IS an Experienced Service Company doing border bounce entries into Thailand via Cambodia for Laos passport holders

AVOID POIPET BORDER CROSSING if you try to do it yourself...AVOID POIPET !

There's no 30 day extension available INSIDE Thailand for her.

Many accommodation providers will not supply a TM30. If you are checking into a new place just before you apply for the extension/s, ask first whether they can give you a TM30 receipt or not.

You ask your landlord or manager of the hotel for a TM30 receipt, just before you want to apply for a tourism extension. You need to go to the local immigration office that serves the address on your TM30.

Remember, you as an Australian entered on a visa-exempt for 30 days for free can apply for a 30-day tourism extension. But your wife as a Laotian entered on a visa-waiver for 30 days for free cannot apply for a 30-day tourism extension. She can apply for a tourism extension that will be not approved and get up to a 7-day-to-leave country stamp. With this stamp, she may or may not be able to leave Thailand through land borders.
