Hello! I am trying to figure out how to extend my 30 day visa exemption. Do I need to be concerned about the TM30 documentation? Do we have to request a TM30 from our lodging or do they submit it and it will be in the database when we try to extend at immigration?

Also, we need to extend our visa early as we will be in Koh Tao when it expires on 12/29. Is there a limit on how early you can extend?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on extending their 30-day visa exemption in Thailand and questions the necessity and process of the TM30 documentation, particularly regarding whether this needs to be initiated by their lodging. Additionally, they express a concern about the time frame for extending their visa as they will be in Koh Tao when their current visa expires.

I believe that the OP has the answers needed for his question.

you need to show proof you’ve been registered, they could look into their system but they won’t bother, the problem is that with the new system the landlord (or hotel) cannot look back more than a week to get your proof so they would have to register you again to be able to print out the proof if it’s been more than a week.

, have you applied for 30-day tourism extension at the Koh Tao office?

we won’t get to Koh Tao until the 17th. But tomorrow we go to Krabi, where we are going to try and figure this out. We are in more remote places after Krabi until we get to Koh Tao.

We are in Phi Phi right now but our places says they can’t provide us with any documentation (as in they don’t submit even though they made a copy of our passports).

it’s not relevant, OP didn’t say they were renewing in Koh Tao, only that they will be in Koh Tao when their entry stamp expires

Does the TM30 need to be for the place we are staying that current night? We are considering doing this on a travel day. Will the TM30 for the prior lodging work?

@Alexis *******
, you need a TM30 receipt with the address in the area that the immigration office serves.

thank you. Our current place says they can’t provide us with any documentation. We head to Krabi tomorrow for one night and are going to go to that office. We may have to leave the office if they require printed proof, go check-in in aonang, request documentation, then go back the next morning.

Koh Samui immigration asks for a print out of the TM30. At least when I did it last time in March this year.

You can extend when you have 30 days left on your current stamp. Ask at your accommodation if they have filed a TM30 and get a screenshot and printout of the entry to bring to immigration.

we got a 30 day exemption, so can we do it any time in those 30 days? It expires on December 29th.

@Alexis *******
, you can anytime now. Anyway, Koh Tao office is a rather relaxed and not busy one, also, just 10 min drive away at the very maximum. Just go and check with them tomorrow. That might be the fastest way to get answers to your questions, and you have time to prepare TM30 or whatever in case.

If you were ASKED by the hotel at check-in for your passport ... then they will file the TM30 online with the Thai Immigration office.

but we also have to provide printed proof that they submitted it?

@Alexis *******
NOT normally necessary if with major hotel chain...but can ASK anyway

@Alexis *******
Ask them for a screenshot of the TM30 filing...as ADDED proof

@James *******
, you don't need a screenshot, but need a downloaded PDF receipt from the system now.
