I’m trying to get my visa(s) without the use of a visa service. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am planning to move to Thailand with my family in early August 2025.

I married a Thai woman in Thailand in 2014, she has been with me in the USA since Dec. 2015. She holds dual Thai/USA citizenship. We have an 8-year old daughter born in USA and has Thai birth certificate.

I am seeking 90-day Non O visa which I will convert 1-year Non-Immigrant O Marriage Visa when I arrive in Thailand. I also need a 90-day Non O visa for my daughter who will then apply for Thai passport once in Thailand. Have I got this right? Thanks for any help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on obtaining a 90-day Non-O visa for themselves and their daughter, planning to convert it to a 1-year Non-Immigrant O Marriage Visa after arriving in Thailand. They are married to a Thai citizen and seek confirmation on the visa process and whether their daughter needs a visa before applying for a Thai passport.

I think your daughter will need a passport

I would advise moving here until your daughter is off to college. You're looking at 10-20k usd a year for private school. I am not even mention about the many disadvantages that she will face growing up here. Thailand is no place for a family unless you sre the Uber rich.

search Harrow International school. It is 25-30k. If I have a kid here, I will ship her back to live with mother in the states. 555

We have many friends on Samui, and Thai family in Ubon. We come to Thailand yearly for several weeks at a time and are quite happy to live here.

She will be going to Windfield International School in Lamai, tuition & fees are less than 5k USD/year.

I live in Bkk and the private schools here are crazy. Just make sure figure out how to ship her to the states for university. Best thing to do is keep your address in the state and get her an ID at 16 so she can avoid paying out of state tuition. Good luck.

I believe that children born overseas need to included on the family book in Thailand before they can apply for a Thai passport. This was not the case previously, and can only be done in Thailand.

I think it depends on age. My 17 year old son has been told he has to be registered in Thailand before he can get a Thai passport. He was born in Australia, they gave him a Thai passport in Australia when he was young.

Only for the “second passport” (renewal).

The Thai embassy has a process, which requires obtaining a certified birth certificate from the state the child was born in. In our case that was Hawaii —which is like pulling teeth to accomplish. Anyway, we finally received it and also the Thai birth certificate from the embassy in Los Angeles.

Would advise checking here to make sure you have everything needed for your daughter. I think you should be able to get passport at Thai embassy before leaving.

Lots of cases i have read where children need go back get info from embassy where they were born. Just double check they very helpful there.

Yes, we have everything, but waiting for the appointment, traveling to the embassy and then waiting 4-6 weeks for the passport is difficult with our timeline.

Ok good luck

Yes, you should apply for the 90 day non-O visa based on marriage to a Thai from the Thai embassy before you travel. This IS the marriage visa. You will not apply for another marriage visa in Thailand, you will simply apply for a 1-year extension (not a visa, not a non-O) based on marriage to a Thai.

You said you were married in Thailand, so if your marriage is already registered in Thailand then you'll be able to get the paperwork from any Amphur office. But if your marriage was not registered in Thailand, you will need to get all the paperwork made official while you're still in the US, including getting it stamped by the Thai embassy in the US.

It would be MUCH easier if your daughter gets her passport from the Thai embassy before she goes to Thailand. Otherwise she will be entering Thailand as a foreigner and will have to deal with some complications related to that, and won't be able to get rid of the requirements until she leaves Thailand by air and returns using her Thai passport. There's no reason to get her a non-O visa, let her enter visa exempt if you can't get the passport before you travel.

Thanks, yes, we registered the marriage in Samui, which is where we are moving to. I will try to get the passport for my daughter here, but it seems as though we have to travel to the Los Angeles embassy from our home in Northern California. Again, thanks so much for your comment as it appears you are the most knowledgeable person in this group. 🙏

I’m glad to see you say you have to go to the Thai consulate in Los Angeles. I didn’t do that before we left the US in April with my Non-O marriage visa, and now it won’t work. They need to stamp the marriage license there at the consulate. Wish I woulda known that cuz it had created a huge mess for us. Good luck!

No, not for the Non O, just for the Thai passport for my daughter.

@Khun *****
ok well the immigration office in Korat Thailand was very clear that my non o marriage visa had to be stamped at the Thai consulate in Los Angeles. They say it is not valid without that stamp.
Brandon ************
@Rick ********
your situation is not similar. They were married in Thailand and already registered the marriage.
