Hello

I've tried searching through the posts to help but had no luck. I'm a Canada passport holder, usually come to Thailand on visa exempt 2-3 times per year. I have a Thai daughter , under 20 years old, that was born and lives here with mum. We are not married. Next year I plan to move to Thailand on a more permanent basis to be with them.

I know I could do a long term ( aged 50+ years) visa , but do I have the option for a non immigrant o visa based on having a Thai child?

Other question would be could I come here on a tourist visa and switch it to the non immigrant o while here?

Any advice is super helpful?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the user's intent to move to Thailand permanently to be with their Thai daughter, along with queries about the Non-O visa based on their child and the possibility of switching from a tourist visa to a Non-O visa. The responses indicate that applying for a Non-O visa is feasible, especially if the user has parental rights. A tourist visa can be obtained initially, followed by switching to a Non-O visa with the proper documentation regarding income.

Your easiest route would be to get a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in Canada before you come here, then go to the Canadian embassy here get the affidavit of income from abroad notary document saying you get at least 65K baht a month and use that to get first the 90 day Non-O visa for 2000baht and after that the year extension based on retirement for 1900baht. That is minimal paperwork and because your embassy issues the income affidavit you don't even need to bank money here

If you have ฿800,000 in a Thai Bank Account or can show an income of at least ฿65,000 a month. The Canadian embassy will issue income letters, the easiest way is to come on Non-O based on retirement.

What is the age of the Thai daughter?

For you to apply for Non-O based on raising a child of Thai nationality, you need to have parental rights because you have not been married to a Thai mother.

As long as you meet the requirements, it's not impossible to apply for in-country visas for those reasons after you enter Thailand on tourist status.
