Hi there, any advise with applying for the 1 year Non-Immigrant O Retirement Visa with a family of 3 from within Thailand? Retired with Wife and Son under 11 yrs old? I don't see any information on the Thailand Visa website regarding family Visas and am hoping for no Visa runs especially with quarantines in affect for them. Thank you very much:)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry focuses on applying for a 1-Year Non-Immigrant O Retirement Visa from within Thailand for a retired expatriate with a wife and a son under 11 years old. Key points discussed include the necessity for the wife and child to obtain their own visas, the requirement for current visa status, and the need for proper documents if applying outside of Thailand. Recommendations include securing a 90-day Non-O visa prior to arriving in Thailand and fulfilling financial requirements for the retirement visa.

Then what you ALL need to is to buy 90 day single entry Non-O visas from the thai consulate in your country BEFORE you come here ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

That stamps you all in for 90 days when you arrive. Then you need to open a bank account here in your name only and transfer in 800K baht. That money needs to be in the account for 2 months before you can apply for a year extension based on retirement at the immigration office for 1900baht.

ONCE you get your retirement your wife can get a matching one (by submitting the correct documents) based on what's called "trailing spouse" <- being married to someone on a retirement extension and your child would get a matching extension based on your extension too.

, Is the single entry Non-O visa available to American citizens when applying at the Thai consulate in the USA? I've only seen the O-A available?

They do, at least they list Non-O retirement (and others) on their website. Listed on eVisa as well.

We were married in Vietnam 13 years ago but my Son is US citizen but he and my Wife hold dual citizenships with Vietnam and USA. We were going to use all 3 US Passports for our visas. Do they have to apply from here in the US, Thailand or Vietnam please?

@Larry ******
sheesh that's gonna be a nightmare any way you slice it

BUT

I'd say use the US passports, neither her nor your son could get 90 day Non-O visas issued inside the country, they have to get it outside the country

@Larry ******
get EVERYTHING in the passports from the country where the marriage certificate and birth certificate was issued <-as in if you got married in the US do NOT get her a non-O 90 day visa on her vietnamese passport (do it on the US one, same for your child)

Would like to stay in Thailand as long as possible, years, with visited to local other countries and coming back to our home once a year, maybe. My Son certainly can be schooled in Thai.

I apologize as I didn't understand your question. I can qualify for Retirement Visa with either required monthly income and or 800,000 Baht value amount in US or Thai Bank. Just looking for the longest stay Visas for me and my family with least amount of interruption. Didn't see the amount in the 10 year Visa until it was mentioned on this site and I don't want that option. Thanks again.

No Visas yet. That's why I asking questions before we proceed. Thank you.

Please clarify what history of visa/extension you have since the last entry to Thaland.

If you are on a Tourist Visa, visa-exempt, or extension based on tourism, AND if you still have 15days (21days at a few IOs) or more remaining with your current stamp, you can apply for in-country Non-O based on being over 50 with meeting all requirements.

Non-Os based on being trailing family to a foreigner who is living in Thailand legally on retirement extension are NOT available inside Thailand, your wife and child have to get Non-O visa dependants on you at the Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate outside Thailand.

My Wife and Son have dual citizenship in US and Vietnam if that makes any difference. We are all in US right now.

@Larry ******
Once they get visas on one of their passports, they need to enter Thailand using that.

For Non-O, they may be able to apply at the embassy/consulate in one of the nearby countries if they can enter.

Thank you for the information. I haven't been to Thailand for about 10 years but loved it there as was there for about a year and want to come with my small family to Koh Samui long term from the US. My Wife and Son would have to return to US after we came on Tourist Visas to get a Non-O visa again after I received my Retirement visa in Thailand?

Thai wife? Half Thai child? Are you in Thailand now? What visa are you on?
Robert *******
First things first.

What kind of official stay do you have at the moment?

You can only convert the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry or the Tourist Visa into a Non Immigrant O visa inside Thailand.

Wife and Son need to get their own visa's.
