What type of visa should my wife apply for as a dependent on my non OA retirement visa in Thailand?

My wife and I are currently in the US but are moving to Thailand next month. I was just approved for a non oa retirement visa. My wife is not yet 50 years old. What I understand is that she can get a dependent visa as my spouse until she turns 50. It seems like the dependent visa is a non o visa. Is that correct? We are trying to get her visa done before leaving the US also but it’s a little unclear on the E-Visa site if the non o is really what we should be applying for. Has anyone here done this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has been approved for a Non-OA retirement visa and seeks advice on obtaining a Non-O dependent visa for his wife, who is under 50 years old. A response confirms that she must secure a 90-day single-entry Non-O visa before their departure to Thailand, using their marriage certificate and his retirement visa as proof for her application.

You definitely need to get your wife the 90 day single entry Non-O visa BEFORE you guys wing your way here. If you don't there is no way for her to get that visa inside the country at the immigration office OR from any thai consulate in the area.

Once you have your OA visa approved then you apply for a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on "To stay with non-Thai family residing in thailand (more than 60 days)"

You upload your marriage certificate and your OA visa as proof of why she qualifies for the Non-O 90 day visa

This is the choice you want

AND on that note we're done.

We are NOT going to get in to the "how to circumvent the system" on this post.

That's the visa you need for your wife Bill

Good luck with it

Thanks Tod! We applied earlier today and guessed that was the one to apply for. Glad we guessed correctly πŸ™‚ I didn't know that we couldn't do it inside Thailand, I just thought it would same time and hassle by doing it ahead of time. We should be able to extend it and change it to multiple entry once we get there right?

once the 90 day stamp you wife will get runs down to 30 days or less you two should be able to go to the immigration office that serves the area where you stay here and have your wife apply for a "piggy back" extension of stay for 1900baht <- she will get stamped in for the same amount of time you get when you enter (which will be for a year OR as long as your medical insurance is valid for up to a year)

and

once she gets the extension you can buy a multiple re-entry permit for 3800baht
