If the husband is an American citizen and we are registered as married in Thailand, he wish to change from a tourist visa to a Non-O (Marriage) visa. If he wants to change it in Thailand, he needs to have 400,000 baht in his bank account in Thailand. However, foreigners who enter on a tourist visa cannot open a bank account. How can he prove his financial situation? I'm looking for information from people who have gone through this process."

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American citizen wishing to convert from a tourist visa to a Non-O (Marriage) visa in Thailand must demonstrate he has 400,000 baht in his bank account. However, tourists typically cannot open a bank account without an agent's assistance, who usually charges around 4,000-5,000 baht. Some have successfully opened accounts with simple documentation, while others suggest having a bank statement from a US account as proof of financial status. It is recommended to verify the specific requirements at the local immigration office, including the needed days left on the entry stamp.

The pain and heartache caused by my narcissistic partner's manipulation of my past traumas left me in a constant state of turmoil and frustration. Every argument became a minefield, with his threats of leaving triggering my deepest fears of abandonment. The fear of losing him consumed me, until it no longer held the same power over my emotions. Slowly, I discovered myself employing the "grey rock" method to shield myself from his toxicity. Despite pouring my heart out about my suspicions of infidelity, he callously dismissed them as figments of my imagination, personal problems, or simply unworthy of attention. But when undeniable proof of his deceit surfaced from his phone and laptop, I found the strength to face the truth and now stand ready to walk away with a broken heart. Most end up using an agent to get their bank account, at a price, on any tourist visa. He will also need from 15-21 days left on his entry stamp, depending on the immigration office. Then as soon as he has the bt400,000, and the basic documents, he can get the 90 day extension to get everything else document wise, then when there is 30 days left on his entry stamp, or up to 45 days at some offices, like Bangkok, he can apply for the one year extension. Save copies of everything, as for the following years you just need new bank statements, and new pictures, unless you move. Everything else is the same.

@Kool ******
do you have to leave Thailand to change from tourist to marriage visa or can it be done in country
Kool *******
@Julian ******
in country yes if you have enough days left on your entry.
Julian *******
@Kool ******
does that apply to an elite visa which is essentially the same category as tourist visa
Kool *******
@Julian ******
that situation I am not sure about, but it should be the same. You don't get any refund that I know of for ending an elite visa early though.

@Kool ******
thank you

Why would you cancel or change to a Non-O visa from your ELITE visa before it expires? You would be throwing away money. You can let it expire, exit Thailand and re-enter on a 60-days visa exempt. Then apply for the "change of visa type" on Immigration
Greg ***********
@Julian ******
you have to ENTER Thailand from abroad on either a tourist visa OR a visa-exempt entry, to be able to do the "change of visa type" from a touristic entry to the initial 90-days Non-Imm-O married to a Thai wife visa on Immigration

Sorry, but your "advice" is completely wrong 🧐 sorry, but you got your wires crossed

*** As soon as the 400.000.- THB are on his Thai bank account, he can apply for the change to the initial 90-days Non-Imm-O family visa

. . . . . ( and not apply to any “90-days Extension” . . wrong!)

*** the 90-days will initially be on 14 days “under consideration”. After this period he needs to return to Immigration and pick up the stamp.

***The 90 days START on the day he applies for the “change of visa type” from the tourist visa to the initial 90-days Non-Imm-O visa

*** He can do the application for the 1-year extension as soon as the money has seasoned in the account for 2 months

. . . and from up when 30 days are left on the 90-days of the initial Non-Imm-O family visa . . .

. . . (and NOT when 30 days are left on his entry stamp = WRONG! (he would already been way past those 60-day stay permit date he got stamped when he entered!)
