hey! looking for some advice please 🙂 i’ve been travelling south east asia for almost 4 months now, and will keep country hopping until the new year. I have spent almost 4 months collectively in Thailand, and have absolutely fallen in love with the way of life, culture, the people & scenery, and just can’t see myself returning to the western world. I started my own business so can work remotely from anywhere now, and am looking/hoping to be in thailand more long term , or atleast work towards doing so, what are my options visa wise?

i am a uk passport holder. i would love to find a way to stay just in thailand for a year or two once my journey is done, from experience, what are my options? (i am fully aware i can’t just move here forever unless i have lots of savings)

not in any way trying to cheat the system before i get those comments, i know there are numerous visa types and have met alot of fellow young people that have moved over here who are also business owners or remote workers, so there must be a more ‘official’ way to stay longer term, so please no suggestions of constant border runs etc, im wanting to set new goals based on what requirements i need to meet to make my time here more long term 🙂

i’m aware of the new digital nomad visa is extendable for upto 5 years but unsure on meeting the requirements, for other people with experience, how have you moved to Thailand & what visa did you use? yes i have used google but id like to hear from people’s experience🥰thanks so much!🙌

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK passport holder seeking to stay long-term in Thailand as a remote worker has several visa options to explore. The Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) is a promising choice, offering the potential for up to five years of stay, though specific requirements need clarification. The Educational Visa (ED) is another option for individuals interested in learning Thai or Muay Thai. It's important for applicants to stay informed about the latest visa regulations and to seek advice from those with firsthand experience in relocating to Thailand.

The new DTV visa is definitely going to be worth assessing in your situation. It’s brand new though and still some details to come forward.

I fell in love with Thailand 28 years ago. If you really want to be here you can find legal ways to stay

like what for example?

Ed visa can give you up to a year learning Thai or Muay Thai.

Anything past that involves having a bit of money to play with, ie opening a business or applying for the dtv visa.

do you mean opening up a business in thailand? instead of remotely? and having money to play with is no issue i just need to know what im aiming towards :) but as we’re in between the requirements changing i can’t find this info anywhere

A visa exempt plus extension pre ed plus one more once that’s done would give you around 18 months.

stay 181 days in a calendar year and pay Thai tax on your world wide income

@Braulio ********
not at all true. Situation is complex and depends on tax treaties with your previous nation. And Thailand has no ability to tax your global income whatsoever. They can however, tax the money you bring into Thailand. In some circumstances
