Another quick question please.. extending my permissions to stay tomorrow.. I have the tenancy agreement from my landlady to show as proof of residency. But does my landlady have to notify immigration 24 hours before I stay in her property?? I might add that I've been at the same property for 4 years. Last time I just stayed in a cheap hotel one night before I went to immigration. And showed them the receipt as proof of residency.. which I know is fine. If my landlady does need to notify them. Then won't bother checking in a hotel for a night.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is inquiring if their landlady needs to notify immigration 24 hours before they extend their permission to stay in Thailand, especially since they have a tenancy agreement as proof of residency. They mention their previous experience of using a hotel receipt as proof instead. Comments from others support the idea of using what works rather than focusing overly on regulations.

Paul - your solution is sensible and just fine with me. Governments around the world have rules and many of these rules are absurd. Do what works is my recommendation.

You gotta wonder about how many ‘mom n pop’ one room homestay on a cash basis landlords know about this rule...

But at least the 1 night hotel thing saves everyone involved...

yes any Thai national who is responsible for the property be it a tenant or the owner.. in my case as I am the tenant the owner has to notify immigration... but she couldn't be asked so I have to find a way around it.

I C, so the rule applies to homeowners as well, if a foreigner is under their roof. Thanks, that’s the info I was looking for!

it's not about whether I pay rent or not .. the person who owns the property or who is renting it must notify immigration 24 hours before hand.. and it can be hassle, it's just easier for me to say I'm staying at a hotel. That way no one has to notify immigration 24 hrs before and less paperwork to file at immigration when extending permission to stay.

Yes, she would have to file a tm30 saying a foreigner was living in the house within 24 hours of him staying there.

I hope this isn’t a stupid question, but- If you live with your girlfriend/partner, and I’m assuming they are Thai, why aren’t you just listing your address as “their” place. In other words, why is it necessary to show that you pay rent? For example, what if you live with your girlfriend on her land and in her house? Does she need to file something with immigration that says, “Yes, he lives here for free!”?

Oh I know that they will accept it.. Some of the immigration officers know me, as I've been here several years now.. they know my partner lives with me in the house I rent and that we have a child. . They just need papers to show.

In fact it was the immigration officers that told me to book in a hotel for one night and use the receipt as proof of residency..

@T**
, at some immigration offices you do and at some you don't, :/

In Bangkok and Chiang Mai you definitely don't need one

Tourist visa folks do not need TM30 correct??

nope, it's a problem for almost anyone tryin' to get an extension of stay at an immigration office that is hard core about that TM.30 (alien in residence) form.
