Hi everyone. I have just applied for my METV and will be traveling with my 19 month old son into Bangkok. Does he also need his own METV? And if so, can I just upload all of my documents (such as proof of funds, etc) in his application? How would I clarify that the reason it’s my name on the documents is that I’m his mother? There is no place to upload a birth certificate or such. TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired if her 19-month-old son needs a separate METV to enter Thailand. Responses indicate that it may not be necessary if he qualifies for visa exemption based on nationality, and children under 15 cannot be fined for overstaying. It's advised to consider applying for a 60-day tourist visa if needed. There's also a note about upcoming changes in visa requirements effective October 28, 2023, which might affect the application process.

So, should I change my plans to visit Savannakhet next month for my multiple entry Non O based on marriage? 🙈😂
Stuart *********
@Patrick *******
no. As far as anyone is concerned things haven’t changed in the slightest.
Mick *********
Well that made everything much clearer 🙄

@Mick ********
Glad we could help. 😀

No more multiple entry Non-Imm - O retirement Visa
Stuart *********
@Nongnuch *******
Savannakhet do multiple Non O marriage visas. Not retirement.
Nongnuch ********
well, maybe Savannakhet remains to be the loophole
Nongnuch ********
new requirements to implied by October 28. No more mentioning of multi entry
Nongnuch ********
Nongnuch ********
about "retirement" READ THIS
Nongnuch ********

“From 28 October 2023 onward, to facilitate travel and improve the visa scheme, reduce procedures and the number of required documents, newly revised Thai visa types and purposes of visit to Thailand will be introduced to the E-Visa of Thailand. The revised visa scheme will be categorized into 8 types, which cover 65 visit purposes. Therefore, all visa applicants are strongly advised to THOROUGHLY examine the new visa types with related required documents and apply for the visa category that corresponds to the objective of the intended visit in order to avoid any delay in the visa application process. Never could for “retirement” or “family”. Only “marriage”.
Nongnuch ********
@Stuart ********
according to the new E-visa rules, you cannot get it any more
Stuart *********
@Nongnuch *******
Savannakhet doesn’t use the evisa system.
Nongnuch ********
@Stuart ********
true, but they MAYBE are tempted by the MfA to change their rules. We don't know what's going on behind the scenes

@Nongnuch *******
Savannakhet consulate in Laos will issue a year long multiple entry visa for marriage. No financial requirements. 5,000 baht. You must leave every 90 days.
Nongnuch ********
@Stuart ********
maybe the requirements are different for each country. So I might have missed the topic
Nongnuch ********
Nongnuch ********
@Stuart ********
be aware, the new rules are that you cannot apply for a multi entry Non-Imm-O anymore , be it "retired" or "family"

Stuart, I guess the times are over for Savannakhet to be allowed to issue multi entry visa. HCMC and Penang used to issue them, but no more. Check the notice on the CHANGE of ALL requirements starting October 28 "English version

Laos isn’t on the E-visa program. So rules that apply to that system aren’t relevant to them.

Stuart., we are not talking about Laos

Technically your son may need a visa to enter Thailand. Without knowing your nationality it’s hard to say whether they would. Under 14 they can’t be fined for an overstay. So if eligible for something like a visa exempt entry then they would be fine with no visa and can stay until 14 with no repercussions.

If later you wanted to get something like an education visa then they’d need to leave Thailand to “clear” the overstay and go from there.

@Stuart ********
Yes he will be able to come into Thailand as visa exempt. So seems that’s the easiest thing to do and have him overstay until we leave within the 60 days. Hopefully there wont be any repercussions once he’s an adult. Thanks!

where's this posted? As haven't seen any news of changes
Nongnuch ********
as this comes with an official spreadsheet of the E-visa system, I am not sure if this only applies to Germany. Isn't the E-visa system centralized, the same procedure for every country connected to it?

@Alistair *********
why do you always - yes. always! - doubt my information? don't you have anything better to do ? go play with your kids and leave this matter for adults to post

Thai Embassy Berlin website. I must admit, that it might be different in another country. The most prevalent was, they split the Non-Imm-ED into 6 categories, each requiring a different schooling institution or university.

It's probably not worth getting a visa for the baby if you are from a country who is eligible for visa exempt.

There is no overstay fine for children under 15, and children under 18 cannot be banned for overstay. They'll still get an overstay stamp in their passport when you leave, but that's the only thing. So you can bring the baby in on visa exempt (if eligible based on passport) and then just continue doing so each time you leave and return with your visa.

thanks for the info. Does getting an overstay stamp as a child have any implications once they’re an adult when entering Thailand?

never has in the past. Can't tell the future but probably not

I would apply for the single entry 60 days tourist visa for your son, because people under 18 cannot go into any overstay.
Brandon ************
@Nongnuch *******
That's not quite correct. They're still on overstay but with different levels of consequences depending on age.

I haven't seen any articles referring to that. But if they do make that change I would expect immigration to start checking people for money a lot more at the border.
