My husband heard that small kids are not officially asked to get extensions on their visas or exemptions.

That the thai government doesn’t really care if kids are overstaying

We are planning both parents to get either a DTV or go in with a visa exemption.

If we go for the second options of course kids will be included in extensions and border run.

But is it necessary to have them on a DTV?

They are 6 & 2 yo

Would we have to pay 10k bath for each?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the necessity of applying for a DTV (Dependent Visa) for small children in Thailand, with concerns about whether children aged 2 and 6 need to be included in visa extensions. Comments highlight that each DTV application costs 10,000 baht per child, and there's uncertainty about the official stance on children overstaying. Some users mention that recent changes may have affected how visas are granted to children, suggesting that it's preferable for them to be included as dependents on a DTV.

Check with the embassy that you are applying at. It would be ideal if your children can be on the DTV as dependants.

we didn’t because they are small and a DTV is quite some money.

I can't speak directly to that re: the DTV, but we've heard similar for Non-O. They've stopped granting new follower visas to kids (even babies/toddlers/etc) at consulates (at least all that we've seen), and having the children go in on Tourist visas--presumably to overstay. Seems like a really sketchy practice to me, but seems that's the direction it's going.

Each and every application for DTV costs 10,000 baht. Also most embassies are requiring proof of funds for each applicant as well.

and if the kids already have an overstay stamp in their passport, can they return and be let in with visa on arrival? Immigration won’t care?

they didn’t care when we were going last time. Both our children had an overstay stamp.

Usually they don't care. But every entry is at the discretion of immigration
