I have family coming in on tourist visas. They will have a 2 year old and 6 month old with them.

Will the 2 small children have to go through the same process and fees for an extension?

I remember reading that kids under a certain age do not.

I can no longer find that info.

Thanks for your advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When foreign families with small children enter Thailand, they need to be aware of the visa regulations regarding extensions and fees. All foreign arrivals, including minors, require a visa, even newborns. While all travelers must apply for extensions to remain in Thailand longer than their entry stamp allows, there are specific considerations for children regarding overstay penalties. Although children under 15 years old are not fined for overstaying, they still need to have their visa status managed properly to avoid illegal stays.

, You may be confusing a couple of things.

Every single foreigner entering Thailand including a newborn baby NEEDS a visa except foreigners with permanent residence. And even minors also need to apply for extensions to stay longer than the entry stamp. All visa and extension fee is the same for everyone regardless the age.

Foreigner including children staying exceeding the current stamp means he is on overstay, i.e. staying in Thailand illegally.

What is waived for minors is the penalty for overstaying. Under 15 y.o. wouldn't be fined for overstaying, and under 18 y.o. wouldn't be blacklisted for overstaying. This doesn't make minors skip getting an overstay stamp. And once a child goes on overstay, they cannot be back to legal stay without leaving Thailand.

It's your decision on how you deal with your children's status in Thailand.

This is a common found list of requirements for the 30 days extension of stay...

You state that your family will be entering on a TOURIST VISA.

Are you buying a Thai tourist visa before you fly to Thailand?

OR...

Are you ENTERING Thailand VISA EXEMPT.. giving you 45 days stamp on arrival plus 30 days extension of stay at Thai immigration office for 1900 Thai baht?

I assume that you are entering Thailand Visa EXEMPT...

AND as such your TWO little children will NOT 🚫 need to get the 30 days extension of stay at Thai immigration office...

As they are not fined for OVERSTAY...to age 15.
