Do I need to stay in Indonesia while waiting for my Thailand DTV visa approval?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice:

I applied for the Thailand DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) from Bali (via Jakarta Embassy) on April 13. Right now I’m in Bali on an extended VOA (I'm good for 28 more days). My question is:

Do I need to stay in Indonesia while waiting for approval, or can I leave (I’m planning a trip to Japan)?

I won’t enter Thailand until the visa is approved, I'm just wondering if leaving Indonesia affects the application at all. I'm fine with coming back to Jakarta if in the rare case I'm called in for an interview. Also, if anyone here applied for the DTV through the Jakarta embassy recently, how long did your approval take? For context, I’m a US passport holder.

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired whether they need to remain in Indonesia while waiting for the approval of their Thailand DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) application submitted from the Jakarta Embassy. They plan to travel to Japan before entering Thailand and seek clarification on how leaving Indonesia might impact their application. Community responses generally advise staying in Indonesia until the visa is approved to avoid possible complications, such as application cancellation or additional documentation requirements.

If they suspect you left the country they will ask for a copy of every page in your passport, including all the blank pages.

Stay in the country where you applied for the DTV visa. DON'T LEAVE UNTIL the decision is known. Good Luck 🍀

Stay. If they find out you left they could just cancel the application and you'll be out of a couple of hundred dollars.

I just recently got mine approved; technically, it took 9 business days. Applied on March 20th, Approved on April 6th.

There was a long public holiday and an additional weekend so it might look longer.

The Jakarta Embassy is known for interviewing people, but I personally didn’t get one. So I’d say you should stay for the better.

You still can leave the country, technically, but if the interview is required later, then you need a route back again.

Took me 27 days there with us passport , and they asked for additional docs, all the pages of my passport again, just before I was approved , I'm assuming to make sure I was still there

According to this faq you must remain in the country, however, I don't know if this rule is flexible
