Let's say I apply for my DTV in Vietnam, and given there's an unknown timeline for approval, I leave Vietnam and go to another country for sightseeing until the approval comes through. Then fly to Thailand and enter on the DTV. What would be the risks? To me it seems there's only a requirement to apply from outside Thailand. Doesn't mean I can't go elsewhere after application. Sure, they could request an interview but I could get a flight and be there the following day. Has anyone done this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the risks associated with leaving Vietnam after applying for a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) while waiting for approval. Several commenters advise against this approach, stating that it could lead to visa rejection or complications if an interview is requested by the authorities. The consensus suggests it is crucial to remain in the country of application until the visa is approved to avoid jeopardizing the process.
As well as asking you for interview they can also ask for copies of every page in your passport. Why do they do that (often the last step prior to issuing the visa)? To ensure you have remained in the jurisdiction that you have applied in throughout the process.
Yes, it may be tolerated... But what if you're asked to come back for an interview? It will cost you more... And you may be denied. If you wish to travel, then do so before your 180 days again.
It’s not worth it! Why? Because if you apply in Hanoi it only takes around 5 business days, and Hanoi is an awesome city, with plenty to see and do. Go and travel after you get your visa and enjoy your holiday without any worries in the back of your mind..
