If I apply for DTV in let’s say Vietnam, but decide to come back to Thailand before it gets approved, will it still go through?

Or do I need to wait in Vietnam until it gets approved?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a DTV visa in Vietnam, it is generally advisable to remain in Vietnam until the visa is approved. Many respondents suggest that leaving the country before approval could lead to complications, such as being summoned for an interview or losing the application fees. Although some have successfully returned to Thailand while their application was pending, the risks involved are significant due to changing rules and increased scrutiny during the application process.

There are some people that have gotten away with leaving the country they applied in and either entering Thailand before issue, or just another bordering country.

There are others that have reported that they have been asked for an interview down the line and that would obviously pose issues.

The “rule” is generally understood that you stay in the country that you have applied from until the visa is issued. Results may vary if you don’t.

Unless... If one has too much money to burn and dun mind taking the risk 😬

There is no written rules you got to stay anywhere you apply your visa . If you was on your home country , you apply for visa who can take 2 months to get and would you skip your hollidays for that ? You have to apply there yes . But find any document who tell you can't leave and come back . For interview they will not send you a meeting you have to go in the next 5 mn anyway

Anonymous participant 608 Sydney, Australia Consulate says you must remain within the country for the whole visa process until approval.

Anonymous participant 608 many Thai Embassy or Consulate do have it stated that you are to stay in the country where you apply until a decision is made.

Here's one example from the Thai Embassy in The Netherlands.

" if you are already " .the day you apply yes you got to be where you apply but for example last summer i wait almost 3 months to get my non-b in Paris . Flight in and out for my work in different country and even Thailand . No problem . If they start to get longer in place like HCMC are you gonna stay 3 months there when for most who apply already have rent in Thailand ???

Anonymous participant 608 Well, that will suck to wait for 3 months, but what would you have done if the visa process still worked the old way—applying and picking it up at the embassy where you applied? E-visa is just going digital, but that's all; rules in terms of location are similar. It has worked that way until the recent change to Evisa.

Anonymous participant 608 most applications are processed in 5 to 7 business days in SE Asia Thai Embassy's or Consulates. Read the posts about getting the DTV visa in a country and see what they say about timing.

Anonym deltagare 608 further down "for the entire visa process" and "will be rejected if you are outside of the NL (the country where applied)".

This is how a visa process is supposed to be done. Prior to e-visa, the embassies even had the applicants passport during the process. The order that one is supoosed to apply and stay in the country until the visa is issued didn't change just because the application can be done online.

The fact that people ignore this, forces the embassies to do more controls, asking the applicants to submit copies of all the passport pages incl. empty ones and request interviews.

It is pretty simple - apply for the visa when you have the time for the process.

Stay in Vietnam until it's approved..

People have done this and got away with it. Then others have been asked for interviews or to show every page of passport which would show you exiting country and entry to Thailand. So basically up to you and your acceptance of risk. What makes yiu need to return to Thailand so quickly? Have a holiday and relax

More and more interviews are required by embassies to make sure you aren't in Thailand. So the wisest would be to stay where you are until getting approved. And yes, some did it before BUT rules and procedures are changing quickly. You'll lose your money if being caught.

You need it to be approved while outside of the country

to stay in the country where you applied for the DTV visa.

it doesn’t say this anywhere. Can you show where it says this. You just can’t be in Thailand

believe whatever you want. I have shared what one is supposed to do when making an application for the DTV Visa.

STAY IN THE COUNTRY OF APPLICATION UNTIL IT HAS BEEN DECIDED BY THE THAI EMBASSY OR CONSULATE.

Good Luck 🍀

@James *******
thank you. I’m asking where this information came from. I cannot find it on any official websites.

So are you just quoting your opinion or what you heard from someone else, or is there official evidence of this to be found somewhere.

Because without proof you are indeed asking us to ‘believe’
James ********
That's one example....

If you doubt it... Ask the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you are going to make an application and wait for their answer

@George *********
it's amazing that you're ignoring the reality of what is really happening vs what you want to do.....it doesn't work that way in Thailand.

What I am saying is what is expected of you when you apply for the DTV visa. Stay in the country until application is either APPROVED or DENIED.

Ok so not Netherlands gotcha👌 You’re the group expert but can’t find a legit example except for Netherlands.. but you’re on here giving advice that could have a major impact on peoples lives- staying in one place for a whole week instead of traveling is a big deal - and in CAPITAL LETTERS as well 😂😂😂

laugh your heart out 🤣

You have been advised to stay in the country where you make an application for the DTV Visa until the decision is made by the Thai Embassy or Consulate.

Good Luck 🍀

@James *******
pretty sure that means you just cant apply for it in thailand
James ********
@Marb *******
that's 🚫 NOT what it means. In as addition to the fact that you can't apply for the DTV visa inside Thailand, you are to stay in the country where you do make application until a decision is made by the Thai Embassy or Consulate.

@James *******
yes thank you, what I was trying to say
