Just did a reentry on my DTV visa and the immigration officer forced me to buy a ticket showing when I'll leave Thailand.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses an individual's experience with Thai immigration after re-entering Thailand on a DTV visa, where they were mandated to purchase a ticket indicating their departure date. Comments vary widely, with some claiming to have had no issues at the airport, while others express disbelief and skepticism about the original poster's account. Suggestions include buying a refundable ticket or using services that provide onward travel documentation, while some comments highlight the enforcement of visa rules based on the discretion of immigration officers.
Let’s see the things as clear as they are - many people are now just paying to someone, let’s say in Vietnam or Laos, or anywhere in South-eastern Asia, to prepare all the paperwork and apply for a DTV visa on their behalf. Once received the visa, those people believe the country officials don’t know about these schemes. This damages the efforts of those who have all the paperwork prepared by themselves and where all the documents were real. And this explains the tough stance of the immigration authorities and their unwillingness to accommodate you, regardless of whether you received your visa fairly or not.

I've been in and out many times on the DTV. Nothing like this has ever happened.
i for one don't believe this story......if you live in Thailand as a Citizen then you get a Pink ID card.....I don't believe any IO would consider deporting residents. Makes no sense to me.

Bkk airport, experienced it myself

Did he specify it has to be a plane ticket? Would’ve just bought the cheapest bus ticket I could find
Corruption in Thailand is the worst thing about it (plus the crazy dangerous driving). In many aspects, such as criminal border guards or police officers, it's not a very civilised place unfortunately. Like many other countries.
The Thais suffer much more from this corruption, especially the poor. They have no chance against it

I care little about anonymous posts.

I ALWAYS have an onward ticket just in case, even if I’m staying. Full fare Y class refundable ticket on a full service airline, I don’t use low cost carriers for this reason

It's a real story, anyone interested can ask me for details. I am just in the process of completing a big post about the issue

i always have return ticket right before i take flight to Thailand and as soon i cross the immigration i cancel it not because i stay long which i dont but my plans keep changing because of my line of work so i can't be sure of my return...DTV is still tourist visa and as tourist we should have return ticket, why take stress and worry about someone in a bad mood at the immigration when it cost you nothing....
Dave **********
Adnan can i askwhich airline you cancel you return with? I assume you get a refund for that return ticket. I cant imagine many airlines giving full refund for return ticket, i hope i'm wrong
Adnan ********
I would advise you to make 2 separate tickets so it's easy to cancel compared to one return ticket, I myself use American Airline, you can make an account and use there app to hold the flight for 2-3 days and then just cancel it....i don't buy return ticket, i make 2 separate tickets... also many travel agents do the same without even buying the ticket maybe they charge 5$-10$ or if you know them then no cost, i just never needed them myself...

lol, sounds like someone is trying to scare up some business.
Never forget that immigration profiles, and stereotypes people. If you fit their profile they make it hard, or refuse entry, but with the DTV, which is a tourist visa, they can make you show an exit ticket, in keeping with rules, instead of overlooking them.

Can't you do a border run by road? Why would a plane ticket be necessary

Guys, if this happen, just use an On ward ticket for 16$, is like a normal ticket...16$ every 6 months is not a big deal

ORIGINAL POSTER
I'm posting anonymous because you can never be too careful. The guy said "call your agent" this means he wants money and thought i used an agent for DTV because I have in the past. I said I don't have an agent in have DTV. He said oh my boss will deport you. He was clearly trying to scare me. They took me to the room and I sat down. Then he kept saying we will deport you. I said I have DVT. He then called another guy over and he looked at my passport. I was away for 5 months then got DVT in the US through thai immigration. He then said book flight to show when you leave Thailand. I said I live here. He said book flight and I'll stamp your passport. So I booked a flight to Singapore leaving in 3 days. He stamped my passport for 6 months. Makes no sense. He was clearly trying to get money from me

Many people on here are saying you are a troll and you are making up the story. Let's clear it up, can you show a picture of your entry stamp to prove it so we can confirm you are the real deal ✅
I'm just sharing my story trying to just make people aware. Believe it or not that's up to you. I'm not sharing my personal information to a bunch of strangers.

Anonymous participant a picture passport stamp with a date isn't personal information. The fact you won't share a picture of it indicates you are lying
i just shared a very scary and shady thing that happened to me. The last thing I want to give is the exact date of entry and exit to the public. Again. You never know who is on here. This isn't our home country. Laws are different here

Anonymous participant how would he make money from you getting a flight? Just curious cause I am looking at getting a DTV?
in the past I've used an agent to get a thai visa. He said call you agent and when I did thr agent said I had to transfer 8k thb to pay for the officer to stamp my passport. I think I'm marked by them now. Moral of the story, don't use agents

Anonymer Teilnehmer Sorry, but I don't believe your story.
actually I did this and the officer checked the flight and realized it wasn't a real ticket and made my interview more of a nightmare I do not recommend

That's normal. Always buy a refundable ticket ahead of time
there are some trolls with too much free time...immigration officers never asked me return tickets even when i didn't have any visa, and i've been many times in Thailand
It is not, surprising how so many fall for it. Shows also how sick the OP is.

Well, technically it is a "tourist visa". All tourists should have an exit ticket. That is the rule pretty much everywhere in the world. It just comes down to if the rule will be enforced. In most cases, the decision is at the discretion of the officer. It is always a roll of the dice. Have a exchangeable ticket, it is worth the extra money not to be stressed.
The same thing happened to me once when flying from Singapore to Thailand. The agent demanded to see my departure ticket from Thailand. Thank goodness, I had one.
that's not true. On DTV visa you're not obliged to have a return ticket. I simply said all the time to the officers that my plan is to stay at least 5 years in Thailand and there were no problems about it. Never anyone asked me for a return ticket. Actually I have no place to return lol. For now my home is only in Thailand

Anonymous participant 779 Tell that to the immigration officer, when told to buy your return ticket. Did you read, the original post? Lord, people kill me with, this or that happened to or not to me. You are not all people! We also know some people have "inherent privilege" in this world. You are hiding your face, so we cannot tell if you are one of them
As you now things are changing. Just yesterday, it was announce that Thailand may be returning to only 30 days on entry for visa exempt passport holders. 🤦
As mentioned, it is ultimately left to the discretion of the officer. Also, I know from experiences that globally, some people are targeted more than others. I have watch lines of people go through a line with no questions asked, and then it is different for ME. I always dress neat and presentable, but the color of my skin is a red flag. If you have not had any problems, bravo to you, but your experiences does not represent the experience off all.
absolutely not all tourists are seen the same, on color or passport - that's the unfortunately reality.
While I'm asian (even pass for Thai-Chinese) my passport is USA.

Seem like you want to get attentions from this group members if you cannot show few more details 😪 please write down few more details 🥹

That officer plays his own rules. You can get a re-entry permit at any time even you don't have tickets yet and you don't know when you are going to travel. In which province immigration?
forwarding this.....Well some of us have gone out of our way to attend events put on by the authorities here to ask them the questions that come up in this group. I’ve been to 4 now, including one last week, and don’t plan on getting a DTV, especially after talking to the administrators directly.
Unequivocally they say it is unlikely anyone will be able to stay for 5 years with a few bounces, and potentially not even 2. In their words, it is a tourist visa in essence - it was designed and led by TAT btw, which tells a story in itself - with the ability to work and stay for longer periods. It is not a cheap way to reside here for a year, let alone 5. Act like a digital nomad and spend a few weeks here and there out of the country and you’ll likely stay under the radar, but you are in the hands of immigration who aren’t known to be consistent.
I’d highly recommend anyone to attend their events and ask questions relevant to your situation as the interpretations and gap-filling a lot of people are making are not how they are intended to be by the administrators of the visa. They are very open and are holding events at which people can go along and ask about it and their circumstances, so definitely go along to one.
For many who are genuinely digital nomads it is going to work out fine, for some others possibly not.
Again your opinion and only you posted here. Never heard of what you are talking about so like most things posted here take it with a grain of salt. I have consulted with my local immigration office and am confident where I stand. You don't even have a DTV so why attend whatever meetings you are attending to talk about hypertheticls. Your an overthinker
: they already know everyone can buy an onward ticket for $10. The entry process just has to be annoying and random enough for more people to buy "entry insurance" from an agent.
