TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among commenters is that proof of onward travel is generally not required when entering Thailand on a DTV visa. Several users reported not being asked for return tickets by immigration, although some mentioned being asked by airlines prior to boarding. It appears that while the law technically requires an onward ticket, enforcement can vary, and many have successfully entered without issue.

Book a onward ticket for them to show (max.20 euro,and they dont bother you

Then you don't meet the enttu requirements for Thailand and will probably be refused to be allowed on the flight ! You haven't even hot yo Thailand and trying to break their laws !
Elías ********
@Barry *******
no unbound ticket required for people with visas (except tourism visas).
Craig *******

Just buy a bus ticket out of Thailand for another country and forget about it

@Jo**
exactly it’s like a tenner all this thread and no need a simple ticket using 12Go to Malaysia is all you need if they even ask you. Never ever been asked in 40 years of entries. Strange everyone else has or is it just keyboard warriors scaremongering?
Nelly ******
what does Timatic say ?
Steve *******
I've entered twice with my DTV, and they didn't ask me a single thing. Just stamp and go 👌

For long term visas proof of onward travel is not required
Robert *********
It is the law that you have a onward ticket within the period of your first visa ..I have seen people denied .

I have friends that have had to scramble to buy a ticket before they would allow boarding .

I always do it because ...I want on that plane badly and it's worth the extra fee dollars to me .

The fake ones are fraud and I would never break a Thai law !

Consequences can be brutal

@Robert ********
That's not the law.

for long term visas proof of onward travel is not required. This was explained to me by Thai immigration. Visa exempt or tourist visas it is required. this is the law.
Robert *********
@Jo *********
yes it is .

The problem is a lot of ticket agents don't know the difference .

It's worth the extra 100 euros to me

@J*
no law states you must have an onward ticket - please point this out to me. A simple bus ticket to Malaysia will suffice and costs around 15 US $. It’s logical to have an onward ticket but it’s not the law unless I’ve missed something ?

@Brian ********
you don't need an onward ticket. I've entered and exited always on one-way tickets like 5-6 times with my DTV since I got in in October. And with different airlines. Going there (also on a one-way ticket) next Friday.

Purchase a refundable ticket to anywhere. Once you are in the country you can cancel it and get your money back

@Goel *******
you never really know .

It's always ,in every country ,up to the individual immigration officer ...contact you nearest Thai embassy by email and ask for correct info .

That way you have it in writing
Dave *****
I was asked by airline but not immigration

so what u told to airlines.? How they allowed you
Kim *********
@Goel *******
why you think you tell them something if they ask to see your onward ticket? you show them the ticket
Liam ***********
@Goel *******
same with me

Eva air out of London would not let check in because my return ticket was outside of the legal stay irrespective of of any extension,had to buy a cheap ticket to Han noi
Brian *********
@Li**
I booked a bus ticket just in case last time but no issues
Nongnuch ********
@Brian ********
many airlines don't accept bus tickets as onward travel proof because the right hand steering Thai bus doesn't even cross the land borders into left hand steering neighbour countries 😉
Dave *****
@Goel *******
I had an outbound ticket. Airline would not let me board without one.
Daniel *****
Yes they asked me for the first trip

@Goel *******
sorry for not clarifying.. The embassy asked me. Immigration asked for nothing but I guess they can check any time if you you still have enough money and so on. Sounds bad but if your are not from a good country you better get an onward ticket
Steve *******
Not as far as I know. Immigration rarely ask for onward travel unless they're looking to refuse you entry. With the DTV this shouldn't be a problem
Liam ***********
@Steve ******
yeh they asked me
Liam ***********
Yes

@Timothy *********
airline at check in desk

@Liam **********
Did they ask for proof or just ask?

@Liam **********
I mean if you have a 60 day stay and you put on your travel memo 45 days then technically your visa on arrival covers you.
Steve *******
@Liam **********
OP asked about Immigration NOT the airline

@Steve ******
i also need clarity on airline staff. Yes sometimes they ask and argue. So what's the solution
Steve *******
@Goel *******
Not sure with the DTV. As it's a long term visa you shouldn't have any problems checking in for your flight.
Timothy **********
@Liam **********
did immigration ask you or get the airlines ask you?
Robert *********
@Steve ******
it's not immigration ,it's an airline at boarding
Steve *******
@Robert ********
The OP asked about Immigration NOT the airline
Robert *********
@Steve ******
the OP wants advise on being denied .

It's a common myth that immigration Denys entry .

It's not immigration .

It happens at boarding on instruction from immigration .

Your splitting hairs will not give them the correct answer .
Steve *******
@Robert ********
Why would I answer a question that wasn't asked?

I answered the question the OP asked. FFS!
Robert *********
@Steve ******
don't be stupid
Andi ***********
I have not had any problems with immigration and one way tickets with a DTV. It is the airline who asks about the one way. Once they see the visa and make a note of it, they are ok.

@Andi **********
ya airlines ask so what shall we say? Pls suggest
Andi ***********
@Goel *******
You tell them you have a 5 year visa and show them the DTV and they are fine. Long term visas can enter on one ways.
Brandon ************
I haven't seen any reports of people being asked for proof of onward travel when entering with a DTV.
Phil ******
@Goel *******
what does the evisa website state?
Steve *******
@Phil *****
Evisa website has very little to do with Immigration.Two totally different departments
Phil ******
Hi
@St***
no you are incorrect as the dtv is one of the categories on the Thai evisa website. Have a look please
