Do I need an onward ticket when entering Thailand on a DTV visa?

I’ve read some conflicting information on the need to have proof of onward ticket when entering on the DTV. To me it doesn’t really make sense to request this on a visa allowing to stay 180 days but I like to ere on the side of caution and always plan for the worst. In the unlikely situation of being asked for an onward ticket would a bus to Cambodia suffice or is a plane ticket better? (if so why is that)

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement for proof of an onward ticket when entering Thailand on a DTV visa (Digital Nomad Visa) is not commonly enforced, as most users have not been asked for it upon entry. The DTV visa, which allows for a stay of up to 180 days, typically does not require an onward ticket. However, there are anecdotal instances where airlines have insisted on seeing an onward ticket to allow boarding, regardless of visa type. Some travelers suggest that carrying a cancellable ticket could be a prudent backup, even though it's generally not necessary for visa holders.

FWIW Delta allows you to cancel without penalty up to 24 after purchase.

On onward ticket is not required it's a scam. You DTV is a multiple entry 5 year visa with a 180 day stamp and a 180 day extension an option. You do not require any onward ticket at anytime

Technically the onward ticket is only required for entry by visa exemption. It shouldn't be required if you hold any type of visa. However I have heard stories of visa holders being asked for it anyway.

Many times it is the airline checking you in that demands it. I’ve had it several times and no amount of explaining to them will work. They won’t let you board without it. Had it in both Barcelona and Doha. Just bought a cancellable ticket and showed them.

As far as Thai immigration, I’ve never been asked and that wouldn’t make sense

can you tell me where i can get a cancellable ticket. Sounds so easy, can it be bought on your phone in the airport before the flight goes? Do you choose the date and any price? You have to pay for ticket and get a refund when you cancel?

yes, in both cases I bought them on the phone while at the check in counter. One was bus ticket the other a plane. I think air Asia was the plane ticket. Can’t remember the bus ticket site.

I don't think you will need it. Not every airline allow bookings 180 days in advance

I wouldn't worry about it. The post yesterday about a group being questioned was a nationality aberration.

If they ask you just kindly buy yourself a bus ticket hehe not a big deal and shouldn't happen :)
